When you spend two 1st round draft picks on one person, fans expect an impact player, and why shouldn't they.

But we don't know that he isn't an impact player yet and we won't before he gets on the field. All we know is that he's hurt. We can't go back in time and say that because he got injured in training camp we should not have traded up to get him. That's an impossible standard.

No way is this even close to Ingram. That was a RB this is for a pass rusher. Those positions aren't exactly created equal.

I was in the boat of thinking they overpaid for it, but that doesn't mean I'm not happy they didn't finally draft a damn pass rusher high in the draft. They've been needing to do it forever now, and again overpaid, but they had to do it to finally address it. You're likely never going to get a chance at a guy like in FA.

This is such a dumb post. Davenport is not a fricking project. I hate hearing this shite. You dont take a guy in the first rd to be a project. He was the #2 rated DE. Thats not a project. His ceiling is higher than Chubb because his first step is faster than most NFL DEs today. Give him all the time he needs. I expect to see him in the games at some point this year and actually make an impact.

Pretty much all DE's and edge rushers are "projects" and take a little time to develop. It is incredibly rare for even the best to come in the league and play at a high level. So you're saying that it's stupid to draft one of the most important positions on the team. You're a smart one aren't you.

I decided to bookmark this thread for when Davenport is rookie of the year and we're playing in the giant metal anus for our second super bowl title while I'm wearing a "28-3" shirt and munching on pizza rolls.

He was drafted based on measurable. Everyone that knows anything about football on draft day basically stated he was a project. He was described as a player with off the charts measurable but was raw. In other words that means PROJECT. Im not pulling this out of nowhere.

Stop using a entirely different person to justify another person.. Davenport and Lattimore are 2 different people.

ts obviously a combination of factors, but the primary one was we traded up to get him and he wasn't great initially.

It was purely because he went to Alabama and his vision sucked for 2 1/2 seasons.

Its just like Mark Ingram. Retards will hate him no matter what he does because he was not a 1st ballot HOF day 1 and we traded up to get him. Same thing with Davenport. You could see the hate all offseason and it will only get worse.

I don't know about that.

we've traded up in the 1st round before and had it blow up in our faces (J.Sullivan/Sed Ellis). I don't know what else we gave up in those particular trades but i get the skepticism. I don't necessarily agree with it in this case but I could see how some are sour on it considering the media and a lot of others thought it was a lopsided trade.

plus people have shorter fuses when it comes to patience these days. High speed internet, iphones, people playing on their phones in bars, texting and driving, etc.

if people want to bitch about something they will. This is a forum you can do that on unfortunately

i've been a real bastard myself and have made plenty of ridiculous posts on here. Sometimes it was fun and sometimes it wasn't (especially in game threads) on the bad side.

Sure we did.

It may end being worth it, but why do we have to pretend that we didn't give up a lot to draft him?

Assuming the injury is not long term, how he ultimately plays will tell the story.

But, one of the risks in making moves like this is that injury could occur. Make no mistake, the Saints went out on a limb in making this move. And, I think it's fair to say that unless we get an impact player, it was a mistake.

Davenport doesn't need training camp. He's a third and very long pass rusher. He needs an offseason or two to be able to play run defense and to become an every down player.

Just point him in the direction of the QB on third down and let him go.
