From the sounds of it he wants to stay here, but we have been lowballing him on the extension thus far. Deadlines make things happen though, so we'll see soon.

People need to quit being babies about this and realize you can near infinitely keep borrowing from future caps to help your team win.
Don't touch the 2027 and 2028 caps Loomis. No more can kicking. Draft and smart contract value FAs.
Only reason we finally reset was because of the situation with Carr and firing Allen, otherwise we might not even have taken the one year reset (which is all it ever takes to fix the cap).

Just based on those comments, he’s about to go get at least a top tier-ish guard like Edwards or Teller AND probably one of the RBs like Hall, Walker, etc.

Gotta nail the draft again. 2025 is looking to be a home run and I think you've got 7 picks this year. Nail the draft and sign a few smart vets and you could be very interesting.
Looks like we have 8 for 2026
1 1st
1 2nd
1 3rd
2 4th
2 5th
1 6th

The truth is Payton likely had a lot of say in the moves that fricked us for years with Davenport and Payton Turner
And the draft picks after Payton left?
Penning, Fosky, miller, saldaveri, Breese hasn’t been a needle mover. A few weeks ago majority of the board wanted to give Olave away for a bag of chips. That trade cost us a top ten first and multiple upper mid picks. What was the excuse those years?

Likely one of the high end DTs/big body DEs as well to anchor the line.

All of these, pre and post Payton, were with Ireland running point on draft scouting, so maybe look that way a bit.

Obviously our goal is to win the Super Bowl.

the 2025 draft was impressive
starting LT in Banks
starting QB in Shough
Broughton was injured but still high on him
Sanker can be a NFL starter
Stutsman can be a NFL starter
Riley can be a NFL starter
Neal battled some injuries
Mateveo and Diggs both spent time on the roster
keep stacking drafts

They always say something like this when season ticket money is due.

Slugs don’t walk my friend. Leave a trail certainly.
Not directed at any one but your walk comment led to a question. Do slugs think they are walking?

Our fan base never fails to surprise me. Oftentimes teams with the most cap space have the most cap space for a reason. Just for shits and giggles here’s the top 3 teams with the most cap space so far for 2026
1. Titans
2. Raiders
3. Jets
I’m not saying we should make dumb deals like sign Mike Evans to a 3 year deal. But competitive teams like the Saints should be with Shough, don’t get competitive by sitting on $100M in cap space (which is what is projected without the Olave extension) for 2027. You can be aggressive and add your guys you believe in. Guys in their 25-28 year old range, lock them up for 4 years. Good teams build through the draft AND free agency. Not one or the other. BOTH

It’s an amazing draft, and one that averaged a C+/B- grade by supposed draft gurus. Remember that in April. The one pick nearly everyone hated was Shough, who is a top 10 qb RIGHT NOW with no weapons at all and a porous line. Our whole strategy changed, and instead of looking at diamonds in the rough, small school guys as we did under Payton to show we were smarter than everyone, Moore/Staley targeted high character big school guys with lots of starts, some team captains. That’s a paradigm shift in our drafting strategy.

You can look at it every year and most of the teams in the top 10 in cap space post free agency are the teams that are missing the playoffs (most on a consistent basis).
People have this weird obsession with cap space thinking more means better, when the inverse has proven true nearly every time.
Plus we operated the way people are complaining about for 15 straight years with no issues doing so (outside of Galette) and could have technically kept going last off season before deciding to do a reset to see what we had at QB first instead.
That ONE year reset can now leave us with upwards of $85+ mil in space this year. That's all it takes is one year to fix the cap. It's not a multi year process. It takes much longer to rebuild your team if you constantly leave cap space open year after year. Just ask the Browns. I don't want to be the Browns for the sake of these chicken Littles crying the sky is falling when it isn't.
Yes the mediocrity sucks when you don't play well, but mediocrity is better than doormat in that you can turn things on a dime much quicker. All it took for us was hitting on QB and our team went from a 1-2 win team to actually being able to compete in the division with basically skipping FA last year outside of 1 medium signing.
