I went back and watched the game last night and the last sack that Jameis took before the FG was a TE screen that was WIDE OPEN. No fault of Jameis, as he had 3 guys on him immediately, but Johnson had FOUR lineman out in front of him with only two defenders to stop him from getting into the endzone. Great play call, but it looks like the lineman didn't hold their blocks long enough.

I think that was the play where they showed Payton and Jameis talking after on the sideline. Jameis said something and Payton nodded in agreement. Very quick.

I rewatched that. He maybe could've taken a step back to buy an extra half second to get the throw to Johnson out. But it still would've been hard. It happened REAL fast. Can't say I fault him for taking the sack there though. It's a play where TB Jameis would've 100% tried to make something happen and potentially turn the ball over.

Yeah one of the few plays Eli Manning specifically went back and diagrammed. That should’ve been an easy TD. Although yes it’s true the sack came fast

Good chance that ball is knocked down or picked if he tried to finagle a throw to Johnson.

Under the cuircumstance, yeah probably so, but I'd like to see them run that play again. Looked pretty clever.

Saw that on replay, jameis needs to drift back on that and put some touch on the throw. Bad decision by him
He fricked up, and he said as much for anyone who can lip read

TE needed a little better chip to give Jameis 1/2 sec more and a better throwing lane. That said while open, thats one of the toughest throws in football to make, especially since if the ball is tipped at the line its likely a pick 6. I was ok with eating the ball, but hopefully they can come back to that play later in the season.

And given we were in FG range to take the lead late in the game with our defense playing the way they were, I don't hate putting an emphasis on protecting the ball in that spot. He ran up in the pocket to minimize the lost yardage to keep the FG as short as possible too.

See you listened to Drew on the Mannings’ broadcast of the game.

That play showed the growth and maturation of Jameis that many on this board refuse to acknowledge. Payton asked him what happened and he was clearly in agreement with the response.

Jameis has not showed much touch this season. Glad he ate the ball.

Agree with you. I see a new Jameis developed who is getting far too little help from the receivers. Also to run on 90% 1st and 2nd downs puts the Qb in a bind for 3rd and long far too often in Saints offense. Gotta give Jameis somthing to work with for him to excel then he will.
