Kiper has Calvin Ridley and DJ Moore neck and neck on his overall rankings, but says some teams like Moore over Ridley.

quote:

22. *Calvin Ridley, WR, Alabama
Previous rank: 14

I said during the combine that there's no top-10 talent at receiver in this draft class. That's why Ridley drops a little bit here. His size (6-foot, 189 pounds) and testing numbers in Indianapolis are worrisome -- he had one of the lowest vertical jumps (31 inches) of all the receivers. But then you turn on the tape, and Ridley is running past secondaries. He's always open, and he's a nightmare to try to tackle in the open field. He had 63 catches for 967 yards and five touchdowns in 2017, including touchdowns in both of the Crimson Tide's College Football Playoff games. And that was with inconsistent quarterback play. I like Ridley, but I wouldn't be surprised if he's available around pick No. 20. And he might be the second receiver off the board behind this next player.

23. *D.J. Moore, WR, Maryland
Previous rank: NR

As I wrote after the combine, Moore was the most impressive wide receiver in Indianapolis, putting up a 4.42 40 and 11-foot broad jump. He was a smooth pass-catcher in drills. And I think he's an impact punt returner on day one in the NFL. Don't be surprised if Moore is the first wide receiver selected in the first round, as some teams like him over Ridley. Moore had 80 catches for 1,033 yards and eight touchdowns last season.

The rest of the WR's:

quote:

Wide receivers
1. *Calvin Ridley, Alabama
2. *D.J. Moore, Maryland
3. Anthony Miller, Memphis
4. *Christian Kirk, Texas A&M
5. James Washington, Oklahoma State
6. D.J. Chark, LSU
7. *Courtland Sutton, SMU
8. Dante Pettis, Washington
9. *Tre'Quan Smith, Central Florida
10. DaeSean Hamilton, Penn State

quote:

And here are his top 10 TE's:

Tight ends
1. Dallas Goedert, South Dakota State
2. *Hayden Hurst, South Carolina
3. *Mark Andrews, Oklahoma
4. Mike Gesicki, Penn State
5. *Jordan Akins, Central Florida
6. Ian Thomas, Indiana
7. Troy Fumagalli, Wisconsin
8. Jordan Thomas, Mississippi State
9. Will Dissly, Washington
10. Durham Smythe, Notre Dame

Moore is a stud. His tape just jumps off the screen and i don’t see how a team take Ridley over him

Would like him here if things shake out in FA and we can afford to take him if available

I wouldn't be surprised if NO double dips at WR and gets a TE

Damn.

When I first saw footage of DJ Moore, he just jumped off the screen. He's so electric & dynamic, I'd just love to have him on the field at the same time as Kamara. He could be a superstar here.

But of course, he's rising up from earlier mocks who had him going around the 3rd round to now Kiper saying he could be the first WR taken. Figures.

It almost doesn't seem worth it to invest time into pre-combine mocks and yet I always fall for it every year, being so hungry for football, when I see an early list of names at a certain position, start scouting them and one will jump out as a potential steal because they are relatively way down the list.

Goedert and DJ Moore were my favorite TE & WR prospects pre-combine, and now both may potentially be the first players taken off the board at their respective positions. It makes me question the rationale of these earlier mock draft gurus. If they jumped off the screen back in January to a layman like me, but the gurus ranked them relatively low, then 3 months later, they rank them basically atop their position groups, what the hell were they thinking???

I thought everyone was big on Sutton. Did he have a bad combine?

Yeah Moore would KILL it in this offense with Brees throwing him the ball.

I want either him, Kirk, Landry, or Vander Esch at 27.

I think people thought Sutton would be a big, fast, downfield vertical threat.

His combine showed he's more of a mike thomas possession type instead of say, a josh gordon

think he is a solid 2nd rd pick

I feel like we will end up with a WR but it won’t be the guy everybody thinks, kind of like when we got Michael Thomas.

I could see us getting Washington. He might actually last until the late second or early third

I'm praying for Christian Kirk. He's the guy I really want. I think we could trade back gain an extra 3 or 4, grab Kirk in the Second a Tight end in the 3rd and dline ol and lb in the remaining rounds

Not that he is Steve Smith or Golden Tate, but Kirk is probably the closest in this draft to those kinds of pesky irritating playmakers the Saints have historically had trouble with.

If Kirk ever does produce like those guys, I wouldn't mind having one on our side for once.

He's likely going in the top 10, but by no means will make it to 27

He’s one of my favorite prospects lol. I didn’t mention him because I doubt he’s going to be there at 27.

That's what I'm saying. He could be that 80-100 catch wr for us who can stretch out the field and move the chains. Always seems to catch on 3rd and 5 and gets just enough.

Would love Hamilton(6'0" 203) in the 3rd too. Wish he had a 2nd cause I feel that is where he will go.

Would be a top 3 WR had he played with competent QBs. Always open, great route runner, great body control that leads to difficult catches.

I’m all in on Goedert! Hope he’s there for the taking.

I’d be good with any of those WRs if it was 2nd round or below save for Moore. To me he’s the only one worth 27.
