Nobody worth their salt wants the job. That’s what you are missing, the better coaches will wait another year out rather than waste their chance on a list cause rebuild.

I wouldn't doubt Mike turned us down.

I agree that they are not first tier candidates.
But, to be honest we have no idea who will be successful and who won’t. Plenty of highly sought after candidates flame out and lesser known guys succeed. The positives and negatives about these guys from what I’ve read is:
Kafka:
Positives- coached and was consistently promoted under Reid, worked w Daboll ( who regardless of Giants dysfunctional organization, is a respected offensive coach), runs a system that is known for confusing defenses, could pull coaches from Chiefs.
Negatives: runs a complicated offensive system that all of our players would have to learn from ground up, fan support initially would be low, no head coach experience.
Weaver:
Positives- learned under Harbaugh, learned Baltimore’s culture, respected defensive coach who improvedMiami’s defense this year, dynamic leader, players play hard for him, insiders say it’s just a matter of time before he’s a head coach, likely to bring in McDaniel/Shanahan offense which will help w continuity
Negatives: never been a head coach, many fans will not be supportive at first, not an offensive coach

Mickey hit gold on the last Giants OC he hired, so he’s going back to the well….

Could do that by keeping Kubiak in place

Or at least held off on accepting to see who else may offer. Either way, can’t make it official until the check all the boxes. And my understanding is the box isn’t checked unless it’s an in person interview

Kafka and Weaver are Rooney Rule guys

We don’t even have a zoom call scheduled with him, it’s obvious he told us to frick off.

I wouldn’t sleep on Weaver. With a long leash and patience he could grow into a high quality HC and transform this team into a respectable roster and team in a few years.

Weaver is fine.
I don't get the mike Kafka love.

Agreed. I think he would be open to it. But, I think he will get hired by the Seahawks before our coaching search is complete

So does this mean they are the finalists?

Brady, Klingsbury, and Moore are still coaching so you could surmise they are still in the mix.
But fly ins show serious interest. If Loomis and Gayle take Kafka to Ralph’s on the Park and tour Ormond Estates you have to assume it’s his job to turn down.

Obligatory:

And now the "you sure about Kafka?"
Posted on 1/20/25 at 12:41 pm to Geauxldilocks
I'd pick Weaver over Kaftka. Giants are terrible. Don't see how that guy will work out
Posted on 1/20/25 at 12:59 pm to Weekend Warrior79
Kafka has Puerto Rican blood, he satisfies the Rooney requirement

we've interviewed Glenn though.

Giants would have to make a plea to the NFL for this (this is how SF got the 3rds for McDaniel). Everything I have seen about Kafka is the NFL still classifies him as white.
