He was a second-team All-Pro in each of the last three seasons. Nick also said it’s a “visit”, not a tryout

PFF had him as the top remaining free agent in March

Simmons, who turns 31 in November, is one of the top free agents left on the market right now. For some, he was one of the highest going into free agency after being released by the Broncos. Simmons brings a good bit of qualities to the table, like leadership, playmaking and plenty of tenure.
There are clear ties to this coaching staff, mainly Joe Woods and Marcus Robertson. I noted that Robertson had a nice chat with him at the HBCU Legacy Bowl in New Orleans. We've also talked extensively on Second And Saints about this being a real possibility for months.

1. S JUSTIN SIMMONS, DENVER BRONCOS Simmons’ release from the Broncos may have been the biggest surprise of all notable players cut ahead of the offseason, even with the understanding that the safety market is routinely flooded with talent in free agency each offseason. Simmons’ 82.3 coverage grade over the past three seasons is a top-15 mark among safeties, his 14 interceptions lead the position and his 52 defensive stops are a top-30 mark. Best landing spot: Philadelphia Eagles

there were going to be some tough offseason decisions for the Denver Broncos, considering they were projected to be over the cap going into the 2024 league year and that they would have less cash available after cutting ties with quarterback Russell Wilson. But then came what may have been the most painful cut of all, as the Broncos parted ways with safety Justin Simmons to save $14.5 million in cap space and cash.

Would be an amazing pick up but wish we were bringing in Oline

Aging, and on a bad contract for where the franchise was. Kind of fits in here, yeah?
I went to HS with the guy in Stuart, FL. He’s an absolutely outstanding person, and he can contribute to a team/community right away. Football wise though for us, just another S on the back half of his career.

Yeah 2nd team All Pro for last 3 seasons isn’t just another S

Saints after a former Broncos DB.
Champ Bailey, Bradley Roby, Chris Harris Jr and now Justin Simmons.

This is why you can’t have conversations on this board. You’re an actual smoothbrain

Last 3 and 4 of the last 5 years. I suppose the fact that he's entering his 9th year, he technically is "on the back half of his career"; but he's still one of the best safeties in the league. No reason why a team shouldn't expect to get similar results for the next 3 years.

Timing Update: I’m told the #Saints meeting with free agent safety Justin Simmons is mid-to-late this afternoon following all his medicals, etc, per source. Consummation on a deal will come down to Simmons’ comfort with how he’d be utilized and if the team can meet his camp’s financial mark.
josina with the big scoop. gonna come down to how we use him and how much we pay him.

Shouldn't have an issue with usage since he has a good relationship with the coaches alraedy
