Is the nfl in danger of being cancelled? No? Is the nfl going to sign a huge tv contract in 2022? Yes?

Cool

I didn’t lose a penny with the loss of viewers. I watched and enjoyed the game with no issues.
I promise I won’t tell Trump if y’all watch.I saved 50 bucks on fantasy too because our league commissioner wanted to make sure the NFL and Yahoo knew they weren’t happy. I’m sure they are devastated. I know it’s hard to filter through the narrative by the right and left wing media... It doesn’t hurt my feelings at all that the NFL is supporting the players. There is no way I will refuse to watch the Saints!! I have been watching since 1987.

I'm not sure i understand the argument that covid impacts tv ratings negatively...shouldn't it be the opposite???

I watched NO NFL yesterday. I've lost my interest in politicized sports.

Yeah, people cooped up for months, starving for normalcy didn't watch the games.......because of Covid.
Maybe, just maybe, they didn't watch because they are tired of the preaching, lecturing, social justice BS. Maybe.

"...lacks the west coast numbers..."

Yeah that's super reliable when comparing. You're missing a HUGE chunk of people in the data.
Especially when one of the teams the data involves is the largest west coast market.

Thursday should have taught that preliminary numbers are wholly inaccurate. The true numbers will be out in a few days.

Didn’t the Saints-Bucs have the highest rating for a Fox opening week game in four years?

Apparently

Via @FOXSportsPR: Sunday's #Bucs-#Saints  game was the highest rated Week 1 game on FOX since 2016. It projects to rank as the most-watched telecast of any kind since Super Bowl LIV.

Guess we are just ignoring the fact that the NFL is currently fighting with NHL playoffs, NBA playoffs, and MLB games on the same day.

NFL routinely smokes MLB during their pennant chases and playoffs. FYI, their ratings are also down because of their virtue signaling. Same with NBA.

NHL is actually funny because they have been very fricking low key about this racial bullshite and I am sure some people ARE watching that who would normally watch NFL because frick the NFL.

It's not competition from other sports, but pissed off viewers of all sports.

Yea the whole covid thing naturally has the ratings down. Stuff still just feels weird

I have talked to a lot of people who have said they aren’t as interested right now because “it just feels weird”. There was zero build up to the season the whole conversation centered around Covid and if teams would play. It’s just not the same so it will take some people a few weeks to get back into it.

Sorry I forgot the only acceptable answer here is that ratings are down because players won’t shut up and play.

I typically stay out of these arguments but to deny why the actual ratings are down is just asinine. It’s the same reason they were down in 17. People are tired of seeing politics and political opinions in something that isn’t supposed to be political. I truly don’t care what side you fall on in this “debate” and I’m not even speaking about where i side in this. With nothing going on and nothing to do in this country due to strict rules and lockdowns the one thing people would be doing is watching the biggest attraction in sports. It should actually bring in more viewers. But it hasn’t. People are truly boycotting and if you think for a second that the owners and goodell don’t care then you’re just an idiot. And if the players don’t care then they’re idiots. These numbers will predict the salary cap. Ratings drop then revenue drops. Why do you think NBA players shut up so quickly about China and Hong Kong and refuse to speak on it anymore? It’s because they make those players millions upon millions of dollars. It’s ok to not care it people don’t watch anymore. I’ve never been one to care what people decide to do with their lives. But to deny the real reason the ratings are down doesn’t prove anything other than your lack of intelligence.

First of all holy wall of text. Second, it’s possible for ratings to be down for more than one reason. Of course the political issues have had an effect. If you think it is the only reason ratings are down it shows your lack of intelligence.

Yea I agree. I’m not one of the complainer people and still found myself a little more thrown off than normal by the season start. I felt Better once the game started.
