Jeremy Fowler: Saints, Kamara close to a $13-14 million dollar deal

After the New Orleans Saints and running back Alvin Kamara ran into a contract dispute, progress appears to have been made between the two sides on a new deal. According to ESPN NFL insider Jeremy Fowler, the Saints and Kamara could find common ground on an agreement before the 2020 season opener next Sunday.
"There is a chance a deal gets done before Week 1," Fowler said Sunday morning on ESPN's SportsCenter, referencing the Saints' 4:25 p.m. ET game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans.
"I'm told they're not too far apart right now. The Saints are willing to pay more than Joe Mixon, the running back at Cincinnati that just got $12 million a year.
quote:
"I expect this will fall somewhere in that $13 or $14 million range. Sean Payton and the Saints were not happy with those unexcused absences a few days ago. They smoothed that out, and should try to get a deal done."
The Bengals signed Mixon — like Kamara, a fourth-year pro — to a four-year, $48 million deal that kicks in after the rookie contract expires. Kamara's resume is far more decorated through three seasons, though, than Mixon — whom the Bengals selected from Oklahoma with the No. 48 overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft.
"Kamara never asked for Christian McCaffrey money, so expect this to fall somewhere in that $13 to $14 million range annually," Fowler said Saturday morning on ESPN's SportsCenter, referencing the 2017 NFL Draft's No. 8 overall pick, whom the Carolina Panthers signed this offseason to a four-year contract extension worth $64 million.

Just curious but are we not going to have a lot of money when brees inevitably retires, too? Cheaper QB pay should leave a lot for the rest for now.

We have kicked his check down the bucket for so long that we will still be paying on him after he is gone. I think he is due like 36 mill next year

Just not smart. You want to pay corners and linemen as they hit their mid 20s prime. Not running backs. Hate having so much tied up in a wr and rb.

Or just sign all 3 like they will eventually do

New Tv contracts will save the cap. Whoever wins the rights will loose.

Those contracts are based on ratings. Good luck if you think NFL ratings are going up. Have you seen the numbers for NBA and MLB?

Meaningless. Ratings don’t matter nearly as much as they used to. In the age of streaming, live sports are exponentially more valuable than they used to be. The ONLY reason I still pay for network TV is to watch sports, mainly the NFL, and I’m not alone. The numbers of the next contract are gonna be huuuuge.

I think so too.
Dumb. But this is the choker Saints so no big deal.
Waste of money and will cost them more important players that won’t be pussies and run out of bounds to avoid contact whenever possible

We are going to give a running back ~1/13th of our 52 man salary cap....with contracts due for an elite OT, LB, CB and our QB of the future and while holding a huge bag of Brees dead money.
Good luck Loomis
Good luck Loomis

This board is consistently filled with so many idiots who refuse to do any type of research. I get not wanting to pay a rb big money. They CAN be a dime a dozen. Kamara isn’t just a rb though. He can lineup all over the field and runs better routes than a ton of receivers in this league. He is worth imo 10-14 mill pending how it’s structured.
In regards to lattimore and Ram. They both will get paid and get paid top money at their position. How? Well loomis has continuously got us in a hole with this backloaded contracts and refusal to get ahead of upcoming and pending extensions losing us leverage. But year in and year out he gets us out of trouble. The chickens are finally coming home to roost next year when Brees is done. He’ll count over 22 mill against our cap sitting in a booth. We will be 36 mill over the cap come next year if not more when the cap drops. With that being said if anyone of you don’t think loomis can get us under that then you’re just dumb. We will restructure Cam, MT, possibly trade Armstead etc. With simple research you can see that in 2022 we have over 90 mill in cap available. Drew will be off the books and we will be without having to pay a qb elite money for the first time in over a decade. Signing Kamara, Ram, lattimore, etc to extensions is something. That can and will happen. Just because you sign Kamara doesn’t mean you lose Ram or Lattimore

I hate when they re sign their best players. Why do they keep doing this?!
Man and I thought the rant was bad. Some of these responses are blowing my mind. How soon people forget that this guy was in the argument for the best RB in the league just 2 years ago. Kamara is an absolute game changer when healthy and has made big play after big play for us, and because he has one year where he isn’t healthy and not as productive while trying to play through pain everybody is done with him and all
Of a sudden he sucks? Get the frick out of here

Yeah ST leads TD in the number of moron posters. You give AK what he wants because not only is he your best RB, he's the best WR on the roster not named Michael Thomas. He's perfect for this offense and some of you clowns want to just let him walk
