Duncan is not smart enough to know the pick to contract value of a first rounder. Pick 8 will be about a five year $35 mil contract starting at just under $6 mil a year.Saints could sign Breece Hall for about 8 - 10 mil a year and not use the pick on a rb.

It's slot value, so we basically know what it will be based on last year's draft, we (fans) don't know the bump just yet.

McMillian was the 8th pick last year. He signed a 4-year $27,930,390 contract - fully guaranteed. Just under $7M/yr

Pennix was the 8th pick in 2024. He signed a 4-year $22,882,636 contract - fully guaranteed. Around $5.7M/yr

I'm not disagreeing, just pointing it out. I also don't have strong feelings either way on getting a vet for insurance (not mentorship) or not, as long as it isn't costly. We can easily spare $4 mil, if we want to do so, but it also is so far down the priority list that we should focus on everything else first.

I would like to be able to win a handful of games is shough goes down for any reason. I dont know if Rattler can do that.

Mickey just talked about not just barely squeaking by and outright winning the south. I do believe you need a viable backup. Especially behind this line.

Mariota would be a good get.

he made 8 million and played very well so i don't think he's on a discount. frick spending that money on a backup qb. Rattler is good enough to win with a better supporting cast.

Fully agree, but I did add that the only way he is worth it is if he is one of those once a generation talents. If he TRULY is THAT good, then you can ignore the value if no one in this class is close to that level. If someone is close to the same level as him (whether he is a Peterson or a Kamara or just a solid guy) then I think you absolutely cannot take him at that point.

I fully agree from that standpoint, because as I said I don't not trust Rattler to win us games, but at the same time I think we need to address so many other things before we even look at QB insurance and see where we stand after that. I would like to get one for that just in case, but if that's the only thing we lack I think there are guys that could be picked up later should the worst happen, even if they wouldn't be up to speed immediately.

There's some give and take with this and I think the amount largely dictates what you do. If we could snag someone for $4 mil just do it. If we are starting to look at double digits in the millions then it becomes much more questionable.

This may be the first decent think Duncan has said in a long time. I’m not so sure on Love who i really like but Chris Bell is gonna be a stud for long time in this league. I also like Kennan as DG was a bust and we need a spade eater and immovable object on that line.

Bijan Robinson is making $5 mil a year, Jamhyr Gibbs is making $4 mil.

Saquon and CMC make $20 mil per

Hall’s going to make $12-15 mil per.

Drafting Love would be the definition of “contract value”

Definition of lost opportunity cost when you have to overpay in a $40mm DE market instead of getting one in the draft

Pick 8 is projected about $31.3 mil total, or $7.825 mil a year.

Paying someone like Hall or Walker $15 mil a year vs paying even a second tier defensive end (if you can even find one) at least $25 mil a year doesn't even compare.

Plus HB is loaded with young high end tier 2 guys in FA this year while DE is full of third tier down and aging players over 30.

Love needs to be an absolute generational talent to be worth taking over almost anything else at 8. If he is that I am fine with it. If he isn't it's stupid.

Jeff Duncan? The idiot who said it was a good idea that the Saints started Rattler over TS? Not thanks.

1. Give Brandon Staley a raise

More success next year from the team & defense overall, he's going to get another shot at a HC gig. He's ONLY 43.

quote:

2. Sign Chris Olave and Alontae Taylor to extensions

This is something I think we should do closer to April when we know for sure Chris Olave's PE is a blip. I still think the reality is, we need to pay him fair value (Wilson money), good signing bonus to protect him, and an out for us in the event health issues appear.

Alontae Taylor's contract is going to be interesting. Should he be paid CB money? S money? He's better than Paulson Adebo (18mil) at their respective positions, but he's not a boundary corner. he's a nickel who also plays a little safety? I think 18mil is his limit, in reality I think we pay him Hufanga money (3/39mil)

quote:

3. Hire Jon Gannon

He's going to be a DC somewhere

quote:

4. Bring back Demario Davis and Cam Jordan

Agreed. I think DD on a 2 year deal, Cam on a year by year basis.

quote:

5. Give Taysom Hill a retirement send-off

He's been sent off.

quote:

6. Sign Teven Jenkins in free agency

PLEASE DEAR GOD YES. PAY THE MAN

quote:

7. Sign a veteran backup QB

This staff is littered with former QBs. but if we're thinking oh a backup QB in the event shough gets hurt and we have a shot, there are 2 I want.

1. Kenny Pickett (2024 Eagles)
- He was in the system, so he should know it better than anyone else that is a free agent. Limited upside, but I think he's a good locker room presence

2. Teddy Bridgewater
- He's still only 33 and a saavy veteran who can step right in and be a stable presence. Doesn't expect to start and he's a good veteran leader

quote:

8. Draft Jeremiyah Love at No. 8

frick. No. Paying 7-8mil AND a top 10 pick on a RB is a luxury. A luxury we don't have. I rather pay Breece Hall a premium 10-12mil and draft another OT or Edge to help this team overall. that is a better use of resources.

quote:

9. Draft Chris Bell and Tim Keenan III

I would 100% draft Chris Bell with the 3rd round pick.

Tim Keenan looks solid, but I think we'll address that later considering we have a few NT options already.

quote:

10. Draft a punter — any punter

This is a year where using a late round pick on K or P I would 100% go for.

I’m talking about RB contracts in a vacuum. Obviously there’s more valuable positions to take in the top 10, goes without saying.

leave out 7,8, 10 for sure.

Never would I suggest a draft pick on punter when it can be a possible hit at depth in a needed position.
