You’re wrong about “not particularly close”

Only 7 super bowl winning coaches have not made the HOF(excluding current or recently retired guys).

Winning a SB instantly makes it close

I didn't realize that.

IF that's the case, then you are right...he's probably in.

I was applying a similar standard to the hall of fame that players have.

yes

and it's not even close

up until his suspension (11 or 12'), since joining the saints in 06, no other coach in the entire NFL had more wins. not even the patriots who play in the pathetic afc east.

think about that.. and that's taking over a losing franchise.

No, due to the Saints below average defenses over the years. The Saints always had great offenses with Payton, but not so much on defense.

If he wins another Super Bowl then I would say, "Yes"

They just inducted Tony Dungy into the Hall of Fame.

Tony Dungy.

And you’re asking if Payton is a HOF coach?!?!?!?

Dungy didn’t have a losing record after season 1, took two teams to championship games or better, and had 10 10-win seasons in his last 12 years.

yes, he should be. don't know if Goodell allows it, but hopefully there's a change at the top before Payton comes to that point.

Mike McCarthy has a similar career resume.
Did Mike McCarthy take a team that was practicing in a parking lot the year before to the NFC Championship game, then win the Super Bowl a few seasons later? No? Sean Payton is a HOF coach without a doubt.

Sean Payton doesn't make the HOF based off of his Superbowl win...he makes it based of him being an offensive innovator.

Yes, and it has almost as much to do with what he did as an OC before New Orleans. His use of RBs in the passing game changed football. He perfected some of the wheel route concepts and abused the NFL with exploiting the Tampa 2 with the seam.

Onto head coaching. He turned a shite franchise into a winning institution immediately. He sustained the winning culture for over 10 years. He knows how to inspire his players and he does whatever it takes.

Saints were lucky to get Brees, but downright blessed to get Payton.

If he gets another Super Bowl, he’s in. If he stays with the Saints five more years with a winning record and some more playoff appearances, he’s in. If wins the division another time or two or goes to another Super Bowl, he’s likely in.

The only thing really working against him is the scapegate, I mean bountygate allegations. It may end up like a PED thing for some of the MLB players where they lock him out for a while to try to prove a point. (Not to mention he regularly criticizes Roger G.)

Every non Saints fan I know ranks him the 2nd best coach in the league lately... and this is a decade after winning a Super Bowl.

His very first season with New Orleans he takes a 3 win team to the NFC championship..

Not sure how people can say no.. I suppose y’all don’t want to be homers, but he’s a HOF. He’s been successful a very long time as a HC. He’s built such a respected machine.

Not only that, his offense continues to break records year in and year out.

I really have no idea how anyone can say no. Y’all aren’t right.
