He’s not only been good, but our OL as a whole has been much better since he’s moved to LT. Obviously he’s signed for a few more years… is he good enough to just ride it out with him there and Hurst/Penning at LG for the future?

It’s crazy to me to have Peat playing LT and Hurst LG.

Hurst, if healthy, is the much better LT.

If Peat is healthy he’s shown he should be the LT this year.

It's been odd that he was ever a guard. Dude was a good LT in college and everyone thought he was gonna play T in the NFL

There was a major obstacle though - armstead.

Yup Armstead was the guy in the way. He never settled at RT for whatever reason, and so he landed at LG.

RT was still Strief but he was getting old and Armstead was always hurt. Ram was drafted just 2 years later.

the void years in his contract start next year, but he'd be smart to keep at his 13mil cap hit/extension for less cap hit if he keeps playing like he is. he's only 30. his problems are that he's borderline too long to play inside and can't stay healthy.

hate to give up on penning because of the draft capitol spent to get him. hopefully peat plays well enough to at least solidify the lt spot for a year or so and penning can develop into something we can use. i almost don't care what spot.

i really don't want to spend another 1st rounder on a lt next year. our defense is about to start collecting aarp benefits. payton turner and penning are really putting us in an even bigger bind. we really need them to become at least serviceable.

next year if peat can play lt it solves a lot of problems. this is what we have under contract for '24.

lt - peat/penning
lg - hurst/?/saldiveri
c - mccoy/ruiz
rg - ruiz/saldiveri
rt - ramczyk/young

still need to draft someone or resign trai turner pending the injury and/or garcia. i'd say we need to draft someone who can compete for the starting lg spot if it isn't saldiveri or penning.

graham barton out of duke in the second round might be a good choice. he's played inside and outside.

Looking at those names and considering the investment, this o-line should be one of the best in the league if this team could just scout/develop the o-line

Peat - 13th pick
Penning - 19th pick
Ruiz - 24th pick
Ramczyk - 32nd pick
McCoy - 2nd round
Saldiveri - 4th round
Young - 6th round

Obviously does not include the players that will be FAs in 2024
James Hurt - undrafted (Balt)
Max Garcia - 4th round (Denver)

Just so we are clear, everyone does realize we would have to RESIGN Peat right this offseason? He's got fake years attached to his current contract.

What is crazy is you always play a guy at tackle if he can play it. If his feet are slow, you move him to Guard.

i think peyton always figured peat would be a great lg and be able to slide over to lt when armstead wasn't available. it still maintain that peat is just too long to be as good of a guard as he could be at lt. he was a legit 5 star in high school and an all-american as a lt at stanford. was considered a sure fire first rounder and one of the top 3 LTs coming out in the draft.

maybe after all this time he can solidify that spot for a few years if penning is a bust, which is what it looks like.

he's owed 13mil, we can just cut him w/o taking a negative cap hit. he would still count 13mil against the cap either way. so if we extend/resign him it wouldn't be a bad thing IF he continues to show he can man the lt spot for us.

its not cutting him.

Its extending him and working in his 13 mill as part of extension or his contract voids and we owe him the remaining 13 million

so if we cut him he wouldn't count 13mil against the cap? i'm not disagreeing, just wondering. i know we would have to work the 13mil in with an extension/if we keep him.

It's not cutting. His contract is set to void on March 15th. The only thing we can do is extend him or not extend him.

They tried Peat at RT and figured out he sucked on the right side. With Armstead at LT, Peat ended up at LG.

ah, i gotcha.

if he keeps up the solid play would you keep him? if so, how much would you keep him for? is it just the 13mil that isn't voided or would their have to be a renegotiation?
