Is an Aging Brees To Blame For Salary Cap Hell

The false sense of Drew getting us back to the Superbowl one more time. I know Mickey and Sean kept kicking the can down the road, but damn, how long does this last? IMO They let him stay on two years too long

We aren't in salary cap hell

Hell is a strong word and he was always our best option unless we traded away an entire draft for a guy.

only that final season could you argue Drew was any kind of detriment to the team.

I heard something like 41 mil over the cap.

Yes, we're like $60M over the cap as of right now.
We can be ~$25M in the green without cutting a single player.
We're fine.

Nah. Taysom Hill, Andrus Peat, and Cameron Jordan are three cap killers. Drew was paid below his true value every year. That and it hasn't helped that MT has been injured, I think he'll be back to normal though.
Really wish we had just bit the bullet this season, we would be in way better position for draft purposes and had more cap flexibility

I did not think Brees would fall off a cliff so quickly. If I had to bet money on it, I would have assumed he would outlast Brady because he is such a workout warrior. His last 2 seasons were fricking rough.

The Saints went 13-3 both of those years dumbass. I love the 20/20 hindsight we didn’t win so we should have been rebuilding sooner.
Also you tards should pay attention to FB more. Being is “salary cap” is not some death knell for a franchise, a couple of good drafts or some good signings and you can be back in it

Maybe but you can’t tell me with a healthy Jameis and Michael Thomas this team would have been contending in the NFC.
The results didn’t go our way but they absolutely could have squeezed one more run out of this core had things fallen a certain way. It’s not like they totally whiffed and failed

Dudes don't usually go out if they're still really good and didn't win a title.
That said, I think we got lucky on the timing even. IT worked out pretty darn well.

I think the “we could have had Brady “ story has made people run with the held on too long stuff. Brady wasn’t exactly coming off a great season there either though
The inability of our OL to stay healthy had more to do with the postseason losses then a washed Brees IMO

To begin with the Saints are not is as near bad of shape as it appears. Also why are you blaming Brees? Sean, Mickey and ownership had to sign off on this. They could have told Brees to walk but they didn't.

Brady is no slouch on diet and prep either though and def has better genetics. Can still launch that ball
