At this stage of the Saints’ rebuild is there another young QB you’d take over Shough?

Let’s make a list of QBs you’d definitely take over Shough for the next 5 years. Take away injuries, contract, strictly on field play.

Allen
Mahomes
Burrow
Herbert
Stroud
Jackson
Lawrence?
Daniels?
Williams?

I’m trying hard to not be a homer here

That pick was bound to happen. Running an offense with a bunch of brand new WRs significantly limited the plays we could run. It was the 5th time we ran that play, against one of the smartest corners in the game in Alford. He knew exactly what was coming.

Yep, I fault Moore for that pick……more than Tyler. Schlereth was saying in the broadcast (multiple times) that Moore needed to go away from the double slants before the pick.

Like, top 3 QB in the league opinions

Hell he was a top 10 QB since he became the starter. That’s why people like me kept getting into arguments with some of these dumbasses in here when we kept saying that Spencer wasn’t the answer! We kept saying that the upside with Tyler was SIGNIFICANTLY HIGHER…..and that Rattler was holding the offense back. BigBrod must be in shambles right now

To your point though, I think that it’s more likely that he solidifies himself as a top 10 QB next yr. He could definitely move up depending on what weapons get put around him…..and if we can sure up the OL. With an entire offseason of Tyler being the guy, he and Moore should be able to REALLY build the play book the way Tyler wants it.

It’s not normal to see a rookie QB operate an offense at the LOS that efficiently with audibles and protections. So it’s hard for me to see him taking a step back (although it is possible of course). I haven’t seen a rookie operate the mental side of it like that in a long time

Ratt and Sanders nerds are still reeling.

TS is the real deal. He’s making throws to these 3rd teamers today?

Top 10 next year, fosho

You're being generous calling them 3rd teamers

Total homer here, but I think he slots between Herbert and Stroud. I think next year is a breakout year.

Next year is likely going to be his make or break year tbh. You find out A LOT about your QB1 in his second year. Shough def needs to work on his footwork, when to throw the ball away or at a RBs feet to avoid sacks. I’d also like to see him play more in rhythm and within the offense during the first half more. He really locks in during the second half and has a good mix of when to play within the system and when to make things happen. Just want to see that in the first half too. Wouldn’t mind seeing him bulk up as well. He was 6’5 220. Josh Allen has a similar frame but came into the league at 237. Shough doesn’t need to get that big but getting up to 230 I think would help.

But he does a lot of things well that elite QBs do. He elevates the guys around him. His maneuverability in the pocket has grown tremendously. He throws with anticipation. His mental processing pre and post snap are way more advanced now than when he first started.

I think Stroud and Daniels were too good, too early so they didn’t work as hard in the offseason which is why they had slight regressions in Year 2. If anything, Shough seemed pissed and ready to work his fricking arse off in that end of game presser. I have no doubt that if he puts in the work he will continue to develop under these coaches who have molded him very well so far.

lol. I’m not hiding. Shough has been great. I said in a thread his first game starting he looks completely different from the preseason. He also hasn’t shown the negatives I saw on tape in college. Obviously great coaching by Moore. Rattler even looked heads and shoulders better this year.

I melted when drafted b/c I thought he should have went later rather than top 40. No other qb went from the time we picked him until our third round pick. We needed an edge, and 7 of them got picked between 40 and the Broughton pick. The teams that really needed QBs picked them in the first. Maybe a team grabs him, maybe not.

With how bad the roster is, I thought he was to much of a gamble at that point.

Is this necessary?

And yes. he is most certainly fun to watch. and with only a half a season of starting experience.

Gotta keep him upright and healthy because when the game starts slowing down for him, he's going to be at the top of a lot of peoples lists.

Left out the best. Maye? I think Ward also has shown a ton of potential considering his skill position players.

I thought Ward looked pretty good in our game considering the slop around him. I think Dart will have a short shelf life as an effective qb.

If Matthew Stafford, Dak Prescott, Jared Goff, and Jalen Hurts are the top NFC quarterbacks right now... Which of these would you start your franchise with over Shough?

I'll hang up and listen.

He seems to have good pre snap reads and go through his progressions well.

This. He seems to have Peyton Manning presence at the position in that he knows where the play will be and he sets up the play by completely looking it off until the last second. Hope he continues to study the game and never accept that he is good enough.
