I think it’s funny how many “thanks Coach for everything” post we're seeing on billboards

Knowing full well that he’s going to experience 2006 Nick Saban levels of hate from this area once he forces his way out of his contract in 2023 or 24 to go play for a big market. Mostly from this board. And it will be especially vitriol if we suck around the time that he does

Will it be funny though if none of that happens? Is it only funny one way but not both?

I dont think saints fans will hate payton the way lsu fans hate saban. He wont go coach the falcons

LSU fans hated Saban because he went to a school in the same division where LSU had to play him ever year, and then he went on to have significantly more success at Alabama than LSU experienced during the same period. If Saban had gone to Clemson or USC and had the same level of success without having to play LSU every year, the level of hatred would be significantly less.
So, unless Peyton coaches the Falcons, Panthers, or Buc’s and then leads them to multiple superbowls, it won’t be the same situation.
It would suck if he went to Dallas because the media outlets would never stop talking about it, but the Saints don’t play Dallas every year, so it’s not as big of an issue as Saban to Alabama was for LSU fans.

What is nick Saban level hate. He didn't leave lsu to go to Bama. He went up a level and realized he didn't belong. I never understood why lspoo fans dislike him other than being jealous of what he built at Bama. Guy brought lspoo a NC and is the reason the saints got brees

He lied and snuck out Christmas morning to screw LSU.. He will always be a great coach, but a scumbag person.
You could tell Payton was burned out, the dude looked terrible. No one knows what he'll do, it's all speculation.
If he does TV and decides to coach again, good for him to be able to do so.
and Bob, it's Payton...

Big difference between 16 years of service and 5. If Payton wants to have one more go in a different environment in his 60s good luck to him. No ill will

He is a made man in my book. He can do whatever he wants. Real possibility NO does not have a football team without the success he helped bring. If some people want to be petty and spiteful over this let them. Some Saints fans either came on board post 2006 or are just a bunch of ingrates. Most of the fanbase has given him a proper sendoff though

After SB win Drew said we had a window the next few years with him to win more championshios. Payton took offense at that slight to him for the SB win & said ' why would the window close;I will still be here". Yea,he stuck around one year without Drew then threw in the towel.

Payton was in Nola for 16 years, Saban only in BR for 5. I don’t see Payton ever going to a division rival of ours either.
Regardless, his legacy is secure with most sane fans. He’ll always be known for all he did with Brees and for this franchise. Payton coached all of my favorite seasons and most of my favorite players with the Saints and won us a Super Bowl. I remember growing up dreaming for all that and it actually happened.
I will forever be nothing but thankful to CSP, cherishing all the great memories (and even the bad ones), and wish him all the best in whatever his future holds. He’ll never see hate from the majority of the fan base, which TD certainly does not represent.

It’s also different in the pros, he’s not recruiting Louisiana players, he’s not building a dynasty somewhere that will block the Saints. Chances of playing against him in the SB or NFCCG are slim

I, for one, wish him a John Madden type career in the booth. If he returns to the NFL, I hope it is as a VP for the Saints.

I appreciate his time here, but if he's just going to coach another team in a year or two I will lose some respect.
It would help if the Saints actually get some valid compensation for him.

Are you an adult actually typing “lspoo?” How old are you?
Posted on 1/26/22 at 2:44 pm to AlabamasSalaryCap
He took a franchise that was as dead as dead could be after Katrina and in 3 years won a Super Bowl. frick anyone who doesn’t appreciate Sean Payton for what he did, no matter whatever he decides to do in life.

People are too short sighted to understand what you are saying.

If the rumors on Payton turn out to be true, He would have left the saints, avoided a difficult season 9someof which is his doing), while intending to be the coach for the cowboys at some point all along. Even worse if he has flirted with them in the past
I can appreciate what he did for us and still lose respect for him if he is manipulating the situation or lying to the organization
