He’s playing LT. You and the Saints need to stop thinking of creative ways to play people out of position
Okay, me and the Saints will do our best to stop this.

This thread is just an example of why this pick annoys me. It's not really about the player but the reality is:
- He is a career LT. He should play LT.
- Fuaga should have been our RT, his natural position, from day one last year but they forced him to LT
- Now that we have Banks, presumably Fuaga moves to RT and now we are resetting progress for him in the league
- But oh wait, maybe we should try to keep letting Penning work at RT! Let's put Banks at LG!
- Oh no, we're 3 weeks in and Penning in a turnstile, let's reset Banks and put him at LT, and move Fuaga to RT
- All the progress & practice from training camp is now wasted
We also did this shite with Cesar, who was a center but we moved to Guard
I'm not against positional versatility, but I'm just tired of us drafting OL and never playing them at their natural position from day one and just riding with it. All this moving around and swapping sides slows down their growth.

Love the Philly connection. Those guys do the trenches right and I'll be happy to take a little of their mojo. As someone else said I don't think we are done with the Oline pics.

Penning is a lost cause. Trade him, bench him, or cut him. He should not play any part in the future of this line
The Saints missed on that pick and it’s time to move on. It happens.
Everyone needs to accept this.

Fuaga looks to fit the bill for LG too.
Fuaga can likely play all the positions, but he is more valuable as a Tackle, imo. He started his rookie season at LT and did great. I would continue to let him develop at either tackle position and be set for the next decade.

So we're so happy with penning at right tackle, that we drafted a left tackle to play guard?

Perhaps but he will show up to camp and he will compete not just for a starting position but a roster spot. He may have improved himself or he has hit his ceiling. We will see.

Intend to agree with the OP as it stands right now. The goal is to put your best 5 on the line and right now that would have Banks at Guard and Penning at Tackle. Penning is too tall guard and it would be a waste to have him on the bench.
With that said, I would be ok trading Penning in the draft and picking up another versatile ol that can play guard and center. Penning may have more value as a training camp trade but then again it may click for him in year 3 and his potential comes through.

I dont know why some fans think this is Madden and these guys can be plug and played anywhere on the line and be fine.

If we see a guard/center picked in round 2-3 I think we will know what the new staff thinks of Pennings film.

tbh Penning is a lot more attractive now that you have two solid tackles. He would be a great backup. I’d look to extend him now

A really good G/C pushes could put this line into elite status pretty quick. I personally would go with an Emory Jones type. Going to be a guard but can also play tackle.

How much crack does one have to smoke not only to think this but to post it for all to see?

I don't think that's why people are saying Banks to G
Banks is going to be LT almost assuredly and Fuaga back to RT (where he should have played last year but we were in "win now" mode for whatever retarded reason)

You don't draft a guard at 9 unless he's Larry Allen. You drafted a OT either right or left depending on how you see Fuaga fitting in. I think both can play either tackle positions. But fuaga might be a natural RT.

He played LT because they KNEW Penning couldn’t

How bout instead of trying to make our Ts turn into Gs, let them play their natural position. It didn't even really work for Peat, was at best average at G, but played well when put into the T role. We need a legit G, not a C we can turn into a G (hello Ruiz) an actual, legitimate G is what we need. And we need our Ts to be actual, legitimate Ts. We don't need to put Tyrann at CB or try Demario at DE. Let the players play the positions they are meant to play.
