I rewatched the 2009 NFL Championship game- a few thoughts

-The Dome was incredibly loud. Like hard to believe loud, from the Vikings first snap to their last
-The passing game was a mess the whole game. Drew missed 4 middle to deep passes that he hit 99% of the time. The WRs also were very rough. Colston, Devery, and Meachem all had butterfingers. But Drew was composed all game, didn’t make any mistakes.
-The Vikings were really good. Those were the 2 best teams in the league imo
-#42 the safety was fricking elite. He doesn’t need his name mentioned but you know
-Jabari Greer was criminally underrated. Didn’t give up a catch.
-Tracy Porter was picked on big time
-Terrible gameplan by the Vikings with 46 pass attempts with old, hurt Favre. Only netted 310 yards while averaged nearly 5 yards per rush. I don’t think we win if Adrian Peterson has 30+ runs.
-David Thomas was so crucial in this game. 3 big catches, played fullback, drew PI in OT. Huge.
-Pierre Thomas is the best screen RB in NFL history. Not up for debate.
-It was nerve racking to watch even though I knew the outcome.
-Hartley fricking nuked that FG. Would have been good for 65.
Just remembering the emotions and vibe after that game, I don’t think it’ll be topped. In some ways, it was better than the Super Bowl. Magical shite boys.

I was there and I don’t remember anything except the long review of that first down spot and the winning FG

Sorry, this made me laugh
Which is it?
The fumbles are probably what kept them from running as much. I think they had 6 in the game, and 4 were from the running game. Also, AP did have 25 carries, so he wasn't far from the 30+

Just off the top of my mind, I would put Marshall Faulk ahead of Pierre Thomas.

Well I meant turnovers. He was very safe and conservative, as was the gameplan from Payton.

Courtney Roby and Pierre Thomas both with big kickoff returns that flipped the field

I was there, and it was awesome. I miss those days. I miss Brees playing quarterback.

I really miss Brees also, I mean I always knew there’d be a drop off when he eventually retired but didn’t realize how great we really had it until he left

I was there and to this day I can't watch a replay of that game without getting butterflies thinking we were going to lose.

I’ve watched that game so many times. I’ve come to believe that the Vikings were probably more talented than we were and probably had the best roster in the league top to bottom. I think they would’ve beaten Indy badly. We were just a team of destiny. To force that many turnovers and still squeak out a win speaks to how good they were.

The Saints have always had a terrible history with quarterbacks. The one and only QB taken higher than the third round was Arch Manning back in 1971. Every single starting quarterback for the Saints besides Manning had come from other teams. Every single starting quarterback's careers, besides Manning and Brees, have crashed and burned in New Orleans. New Orleans can't develop a quality QB to save its life.

actually 100% agree, mostly because it was in the dome and the pure joy going through that place. Its why the NFL absolutely cannot switch to neutral sites for CGs.

those good interior pass rushing teams were consistently our playoff kryptonite

Pierre Thomas is that one player whose stats never lined up with my perceived impact he had on games.
While Thomas is one of my favorite Saints, we've had two since him that are better imo.

I remember looking at the box score the next day and was stunned how lopsided it was in favor of Minnesota. 5 turnovers was the difference

Watching that game live was like anticipating going to the dentist and not getting any anesthesia.
My gut couldn't take it.
I stood on my front porch and screamed.. "The Saints are going to the Super Bowl!!!!"

That 4th down conversion was close!
When Minny was driving that last drive and appeared Favre was going to get in FG range to drive a dagger in us some guy came in the section aisle and told us "dont worry we will win this we got it" people shooed him away like was some drunken dog. Then the inexplicable INT by Farve! After the game I tried my best to locate the guy and hug him buy him drinks, etc. was nowhere to be found
I believe we were the team of destiny for sure!

It wasn’t the single loudest moment in the dome but that was consistently the loudest environment I’ve been in for a football game.
I’ve been to almost every big saints game since Katrina and a bunch of LSU ones and this was the loudest from start to finish.
The single loudest pop was probably the Gleason blocked punt.
