It’s pretty clearly a Moore issue. Even with Rattler last year we were much better in the second half down 10-14 points than we were in the first half.

Moore is either terrible at his initial game script from a game planning/schematic perspective or he play calls not to lose while it’s a tight game. Lots of runs and short passes and trying to play field position and keep it like a 10-7 game. Probably a combination of both.

That’s just an excuse people are using for his poor play in the first half.

You had Brees telling you for years he wanted every rep possible.

There are QBs I’m sure that performed well & were indifferent on whether they played in preseason or not. I can’t use preference as evidence

It was the dumbest thing imaginable. I didn't understand it then. I don't understand it now. It's not like he's been in the league for 10 years.

They had three joint practice sessions with other teams that provided more game like situations than what he would have had in a couple of pre-season game series.

I know this is what some people say.

Controlled scrimmages don’t simulate 70k in a stadium in game conditions

Can he not get hurt in the controlled scrimmages?

scrimmages are more CONTROLLED.

preseason is pure LIVE play.

And you are also asking him to do scrimmages and preseason games back to back.

Regardless, nfl had a 2 week break from last preseason game to first game.

So then scrimmages are not as good of a substitute?

Which is it?

No, I’m saying go back to the old days of maybe a joint practice or two but not these controlled scrimmages substitute for preseason games.

They can’t hit the QB in joint practices

This is stupid. QBs play like shite all the time.

Historically a QB would play 1 series each in the first 2 preseason games, then a few series in the 3rd and sit out the 4th.

Shough played bad for a half because of this? But playing a few series 3 weeks ago would have had him in a groove, huh?

For a veteran player like Brees, Rogers, Mahomes, etc playing in the preseason probably would not have had much effect. But Shough is still an inexperienced QB. He hasn't even started a full season of NFL games. A scrimmage, even against an opponent's #1s, still can't fully simulate a game type situation. If, for nothing else, the QBs are protected in a scrimmage.

A QB knowing he's "live" in game type setting in a stadium with tens of thousands of fans vs. controlled practice field can't be simulated. That's not to say that if Shough played 5-6 series in preseason he would have come out and been great from the start. But for a guy starting just his 10th NFL game even just lightly going through the motions in a preseason game can have a bigger impact than it would on a 10 year vet.
