On paper, I LOVE this staff. Obviously that doesn’t guarantee success but I can’t find any fault in these hirings.

Klint Kubiak- young, Shanahan tree, playcalling experience. Literally grew up in this system with his father.
Andrew Janocko- worked with Klint and Gary in Minnesota. Also worked under Tony Sporano, a renowned OL coach. Young guy.
Derrick Foster- Young but experienced, no obvious connection to Kubiak but will be tasked with developing Kendre Miller. Worked with Austin Eckler the last few years, similar profile to Miller
Keith Williams- very experienced WR coach to help with the youth at WR.
Rick Dennison- probably no one more well versed in the Shanahan blocking style. Played in and coached it for almost 30 years. Perfect fit for the young Kubiak
John Benton- again, very well versed in the system, veteran coach

Love the mix between young and old and system and non-system guys. Couldn’t be happier with this staff.

very reasonable to be optimistic about moving forward. We can be a viable team getting top 8-12 production out of DC, our defense rebounding a bit and continue the re-sculpture of the roster.

Man, I hope so. D.A. has shown he can coach Defense.

DA couldn't win with Payton's scheme and culture installed, and with one of the softest schedules in recent history.

When your head coach is a proven loser, I'm not sure that even a hall of fame offensive staff can move the needle.

The problem won't be coaching at the assistant level. They have done pretty well there on paper.

The problems will be:

1) TALENT. We are going to have a significant talent issue all over the field

2) Head Coach

QB

Carr has to show he can pick up this offense quickly. The last 2 times he's had to learn new offenses, it took a long time.

The hope would be that lots of the larger concepts from the Gruden offense apply, but I think they're 2 very different schools/trees of WCO.

Gruden was already part of the Holmgren splinter in Green Bay when Shanahan went to SF and learned the WCO and added his spin.

Play action, play action, play action.

Carr was 2nd in the league in completion % on play action throws in 2023. We just never committed to it.

The hope is he can have a Matthew Stafford type ascent. That is really lofty don’t get me wrong, but not impossible.

Next time someone late hits Carr to start the season, someone needs to send the opposing team and the refs a message to frick off.

Carr was injured the first half of the season and needs to be kept upright. The Saints need some dogs on the offensive line.

All this. It’s nice to be optimistic, but I don’t think we win 9 games again under Allen.

Don’t have a problem with any of the hires, but there are message boards of their past teams shitting and hating on them somewhere

I see you’re getting the annual offseason downvotes of hope.

I agree with all of this though. I really like assistants. I don’t like Allen (he will forever be a loser of an head coach who even managed to botch the easiest schedule in the league made easier by facing several backup QBs) and think Carr is just kinda who he is at this point.

This team really needs a massive youth infusion and that doesn’t really jive with a coach fighting for his life at the HC position.

In any other division this would like be a 6-7 win team tops but we will flirt with .500 (either side) since it’s the nfc south.

This is a MAJOR concern, but some of that learning curve can be alleviated with an OC that doesn't try to force the playbook and uses the current structure/playbook as the foundation to build from. This will put a lot of pressure on Kubiak as well, but you have seen this done with other teams around the league before.

What is Carr bringing to the table if at 33 he can’t quickly learn and help teach a new offense though?

We shouldn’t have to baby step a guy who has been in the year for over a decade. It’s not college or his rookie year. If his physical attributes were off the chart I’d get it but if he’s just kind decent passing and he doesn’t have the mind, what the hell are we paying him big money for?

Haener may learn it faster than the others. At least I can hope. Would be a nice surprise to see him make a jump to a #2 QB and pick up a journey man QB for 3rd. We are due some good luck in drafted QB's dagnabbit!

I am not arguing your point. But the reality is he has struggled under new systems at least 2 years in a row; when McDaniels went to LV and when he came here. That's enough of a pattern to me that says if he is going to be your QB and you are installing a new system; you need to cater to his apparent weakness as much as you would adjust your system to his strengths.

Flip side is what it appears PC did. Looks like he tried to force Winston, Siemian, Dalton and Carr into Brees' strengths and make them all something they are not.

I agree with you 100%. It’s just frustrating.

Agreed.

Some people will say that any coaching staff with Dennis Allen on it as HC sucks, but in reality the guys they brought in were highly respected and could have had their pick of destinations.

It's early but things should be much better even if the talent doesn't improve simply because if better coaching.

Is he though? Got fingers crossed, but does one season at SF really make him part of the Shanahan tree?
