I have a feeling the Saints will trade down with Pick 19

Loomis was on a podcast and said something about them not being done with this draft and even hinting around getting a nice return for a first if the right team wanted to move up.

And while I have never bought into the QB hype, I can see a run on them in the middle of the round. Willis and Pickett are sitting there at 19 (or even 16)...I can see the Saints entertaining a trade to move back and get additional picks.

QB to the Saints is a smokescreen

I’m sure it has happened, but I cannot remember the last time we traded down with a first round pick. Maybe Payton and Loomis first year together…or I’m thinking it was a second rounder. But it’s rare.

i think so too. they may move up for an OT and then draft a WR next.

Payton & Loomis have never traded down in the 1st, and probably not in other rounds. They would routinely trade up for a targeted player, or trade picks for players. And sometimes players for picks

Saints haven't traded down notably since 2007.

That said, I sort of agree. 19 is a great spot to be with Pittsburgh at 20. If there is a QB left, teams will want to get in front of them.

Yeah I’m mixing up what year and pick was when. I just remember being the only time during Payton’s tenure we traded down and got players in exchange. I want to say maybe that was Jeff Faine in 2006, but I could be wrong.

If Pickett is there at 19,not a chance the Saints trade down.

I could see them doing it if the player that they want isn't there.

They have spent time with quite a few running backs and qbs.

If you can get the WR you want at 16 then I’d love to trade down at 19 if it means you can still get a late 1st and pickup a solid starter. Don’t waste picks on a QB this year.

Take whatever Loomis said publicly and assume we are thinking the opposite - that’s what the other GMs believe at this point.

By the team seemingly going all in on this year's draft at the possible expense of next year's leads me to believe they might have specific target/s on their screen whether somewhere in the draft or in free agency. This year's draft has the numbers of talent, even extending well into the 2nd rd. that tend to cater to our specific needs. By trading down this could turn out to be an exciting edge of your seat draft for us.

so we give up next years pick and a 2nd and 3rd to trade down?

Could make sense and even work out in the team's favor, but I agree it's unlikely. The biggest reason I have seen the trade down discussed is if a QB falls to 16, but the only team that may be in the market NOW for a QB after 16 would be Pitt(20) & Det(32). IMO, Det is too far back, and I don't see TB trading up for someone for the '23 season.

So, where would the incentive be for Pitt to try to jump Saints (twice), LAC & Philly unless they believe the hype that Saints are going QB

If Pitt does trade w/ us for their QB, that could generate one of those picks coming back...value chart says Pitt's 1st @ 20 & their 3rd is around the value of Saints 16
FYI: Det value would be Det 32 & 34 for NOLA 16 & 98

You wouldn't have to trade down very far, a couple of spots maybe to squeeze a good deal from another team targeting someone specific while still landing your intended plus some draft or trade capital from them. Or package the change in draft order in a deal for a specific player.
