That track puts ATL in the northeast section of the storm, which is usually the worst part. Depending on the track, the eye wall may even go over Atlanta.

ideally the nfl should just swap games in this instance
let new orleans host and return the trip later

Correct. Here in Clt we are supposed to get the storm by Fri afternoon/evening so it will be long gone from Atl by the weekend.

Once it pushes through by Friday afternoon, if any adjustments need to be made the first option would be to move to Monday (may even be able to play Tuesday)

Atlanta is roughly 300 miles from the gulf coast of Florida. I highly doubt that storm still has an organized eye by the time it gets that far inland. They do seem to be on the stronger side but it’s supposed to be clear of there sometime Friday so we’ll see how much damage occurs. Hopefully it’s not too bad.

ATL should be fine but if there was damage, etc I wonder if Athens would be an option? Only an hour drive on a weekend

I think that the game will be played in Atlanta as scheduled but keep in mind that both the Saints and the Falcons have a week 12 bye. Worst case scenario, the NFL could just push the game back to that week.

Not concerned about game time. But if Atlanta is on the eastern side of the storm the aftermath could pose some serious problems.

Good call, I did not think to look at their schedule and see what their bye was. I assume that will be the NFL’s contingency plan if Atlanta gets hit hard.

Updated forecast: Atlanta is now projected to have extremely serious flooding (4 out of possible 1-4 Serious Flooding Risk) from the storm.
I don't know anything about ATL's flood management capabilities, but even if this doesn't directly shut down the stadium it could seriously hamper fans trying to get there (or even getting into ATL), as well as hampering employees of the facilities and the teams from getting to the stadium.
Someone stated in another post that the Falcons and Saints both have a week 12 bye - maybe that's the best way to go?

Its generally more about using up the resources such as police and other city officials that it takes to put on a home game.

If this storm is as strong ,cat 1 ,as they say going into atlanta its going
to be more about flooding and downed trees and power lines knocking out
electricity in the city.We all know how long that takes to fix.

Won’t be an issue.
Yeah except flooding and no electricity plus road closures.
Which is always worse than the actual storm.

The worst of the storm wound up jogging well east of Atlanta. There was some isolated flooding and power outages, but nothing bad enough to postpone or move this game. The Braves are still playing at home today, so the Saints game will certainly be on for Sunday.

Agreed, Atlanta dodge a bullet, South Carolina not so much
*Edited my title before people come in here saying Atlanta is fine not realizing the thread was started days ago when Atlanta was in the path*

Atlanta dodged the wind bullet but now is getting the flooding. The other thing to consider is local resources. Even though Atlanta physically could hold the game on Sunday, do they want to divert local resources?
We all know the resources (police, workers, EMS, etc.) required to hold an NFL game. I could see the Atlanta Mayor wanting the Falcons to postpone or move the game due to not wanting to divert resources. Plus the NFL doesn't want the bad PR.
I'm a Saints fan and I live in Florida. I was seriously considering driving up or trying to get a last minute fly to the game as I've never gone to Mercedes-Benz Stadium and wouldn't mind seeing it. But definitely going to hold that off to a future year now.
If I had to predict, I think both the Saints-Falcons game in Atlanta and the Bucs-Eagles game in Tampa are moved to Monday. Saints-Falcons could be moved to New Orleans but it's probably too late to have the Dome ready.
UPDATE: Just saw where the App State-Liberty game in Boone, NC is already off. I would be really surprised to see either the Saints-Falcons or Bucs-Eagles games go off on Sunday.

The Braves are literally playing a game in Atlanta in 5 hours. There doesn't seem to be much concern about diverting local resources. I would be shocked if the game on Sunday was postponed if they're already having a major sporting event being played on a Friday.

The Braves play in Cobb and not in Atlanta proper. Politics will come into play here. And with all due respect MLB doesn't require the same resources as an NFL game. Again the question will just be if the city says "we can't divert any resources for the game" which then means no police, no EMS and other resources for emergencies and traffic management.
