So I read that the Raiders used Tyree Wilson wrong, I listened to him talk a while, he seems down to Earth, reasonable, seems like he wants to do well, so how will he be used in New Orleans as opposed to how he was used with the Raiders

We play a 3-4, so the only way to use him here is as an edge or an additional rusher on obvious passing downs.

If you try to play him inside as a DE or NT against the run he will get blown up.

He’ll wear 94 and we’ll call him Cam

Isn't he really good against the run?

He was alleged to have played well when the Raiders moved him inside. Tbh I haven't dug into that but a few were speculating him playing inside here, which is insane.

Jordan at 280ish lbs. was deemed too light to play inside in our 3-4 and was instead put at edge, and this guy is at least 20 lbs. lighter.

Edit:
We actually have him listed at 275 lbs, so it seems he gained about 10ish lbs. from his listed Raiders weight. Still too light to play inside for us. Literally everyone at DE (not edge) or NT is 300+ lbs.

He’s basically the same size as Granderson, so my guess is that he will rotate with him and Chase Young.

From everything I’ve read, he’s slow off the ball and lacks pass moves beyond a bull rush. But he’s good against the run.

So basically a rotational defensive end.

As a backup or bench warmer tops. Don't expect a top ten pick talent to just show up all of a sudden.

If they can do a fraction of what they did with Chase Young to Wilson it will be a win.

Sometimes getting out of a bad situation can spark something. One can always hope.

Ok, well we needed D line bodies badly so if he's good against the run that's a great trade for us

Wilson himself sees himself as a rotational guy. If he can just be Alex Okafor for us, this trade is a win.

Yal are thinking of this completely wrong. Granderson's comp is the better and it will allow both of them to be optimized as solid run defenders and just go all out as pass rushers since the drop off is negligible.

Granderson 2 years left, going into the season age 30
763 snaps - 39 total pressures (7 sacks, 4 hits, 28 hurries); run stops (38 solo tackles)

Wilson 1 year left, going into the season age 26
463 snaps - 35 total pressuress (4 sacks, 3 hits, 28 hurries); run stops (25 solo tackles)

Adding Cam back helps with keeping all the pass rushers fresh, but I think it also tells us we need to add a speed rusher to balance out Young

That was one of my points in another thread that if he plays well he is likely going to replace Granderson if he stays here. I don't see us paying both of them, and you obviously would take the much younger player, play quality being equal.

Edit:
To be clear this post was about Wilson potentially replacing Granderson, not Cam.

i don't see a need for us to give away 7-9 million to cam this year.

W/ Chase, Granderson, Tyree, Rumph, Diggs versatility of guys like Ridgeway, Breese, Broughton... i think i'm good.

lol couldn’t be more wrong.

it was his run defense that was like 95th percentile in the NFL. he’d been doing really well there.

it was his pass rush that sucked.

hopefully change of scenery helps

I guess people completely missed my point there. He is TOO SMALL to play inside at DE or NT for us in our 3-4, where everyone at that position is 300+ lbs for us.

I NEVER said he was bad at stopping the run, just that for us he will be playing Edge, and anyone who thinks he can move inside and play doesn't understand our scheme.

There may be some packages where he is moved inside on passing downs, but he isn't going to play DE or NT for us.
