How much of the fanbase would be pissed if we didn’t get a WR in round 1?

As long as they get a LT I really wouldn’t be that mad unless Chris Olave was still available which I don’t see happening. You’d have to go WR in round 2 though with someone like Skyy Moore, Jahan Dotson or Treylon Burks would all still be cast improvements on what we have and would immediately be the WR 2 opposite Thomas. It would be hard to turn down one of those Georgia DT though at 19 too. This draft will determine the success of this team for the next 4-5 years they have to hit on a good few players l here that end up being stalwart starters.

I’d be alright with pick 49 being a WR if not in the first round…but past that would be a little puzzling.

In a passing league, I don’t understand why the majority of this board never wants to draft wr talent in the first round. It’s puzzled me before Michael Thomas was drafted and still does currently. That approach has the offense in the predicament that its in right now. Ramczyk (1st) and McCoy (2nd) have been a good to great picks in the early rounds, the other o-linemen early round picks have left much to be desired. Armstead was a 3rd rounder, Evans 4th, Nicks 5th, one could argue that the wait for later rounds approach works better with o-line picks. With two 1st round picks, the team could draft need and the best player available. WR is a definite need without a QB like 2011 prime Brees under center. The theory that bypassing the higher rated Wr talent based on, “we can get quality later” has held the offense back for quite some time now.

The only way I wouldn’t mind it is if there was a run on WR early in the first and the guys left there were valued much later

Most of the people on this board want the saints to take a WR in the first round.

I was of the mindset that you can always sign a FA WR or trade for one, but seeing what they are getting paid now it would seem like drafting a low 1st and having him for 5 years is the way to go. Even a 2nd round for 4 years. I don't think you can franchise the 5th year at the current rate.

Not really, I’ve seen just as many that want to repeatedly “build from the inside out.”

They draft a stud OT and DT in round 1, I’m not going to be mad.

If by round 3 we haven’t drafted a receiver, then I have to question what the hell this team is doing

For me it depends on how the board falls. If the WRs that make sense for us aren’t there, I won’t be as mad. I don’t expect them to super reach just to fill a positional need. But if like, Olave or Jameson are there and they select a DE or something, I’m gonna fricking nuclear melt.

I think one thing that should be on our radar is that a lot of teams might be thinking of going WR higher than people expect because of how expensive they’re getting in the FA market. Top WR’s on average are now the second highest paid position behind QB, passing DE. Pretty rough when you need to field so many. So I could see a reaction to that market being a slew of WRs being over drafted which could hurt our chances of getting a guy we like

I think I’m just tired of this team ignoring the position in the first few rounds. We’ve only selected three WRs in the first two rounds since 2003. This team has been WR starved for a long time at this point. With two first round picks and a TON of WRs available that are first round worthy, it’s time to pull the trigger.

They might have 25-30 WR go in the first 3rds. It’s loaded. They should absolutely wait until the 2nd or 3rd

This is the right answer.

I would not be mad at all...I was listening to Scone the other day (I know, I know) but he was talking about a mock done by ESPN that had the Saints taking Penning at OT, the stud DT from Georgia and then getting Metchie in the second round.

There is tremendous value at WR.

WR is very deep this draft. I am hoping we go OT/DT or OT/FS with the first 2 picks. I think you need to come away with an OT / FS / WR with first 3 picks, but the sequence doesn't really matter.

I tend to think that Sean and Drew were the main reason that we devalued receivers in the draft.
