Only thing that sucks is seeing nearly every single franchise now get a new stadium or release renderings of one and we're over here putting patches on ours nearly every year. All the money they have spent on renovating the dome they could've built a new one by now.

Buffalo, Nashville, and now even Jacksonville have released renderings for new stadiums. These are the cities that were on or around our level in terms of stadiums.

Does Gayle have any agreements in place to keep the Saints here long-term?

If the Saints ever leave New Orleans, it likely won't be in our lifetimes. Gayle will sell in 6-7 more years to someone who promises to keep the Saints in New Orleans. She's been adamant about that publicly for a while. Even if she keeps the team until she dies, she has plans in place to keep the team here.

Yeah. Just like when Howard Schultz sold the Sonics to Clay Bennett but made him ‘promise’ not to leave Seattle. How did that work out?

It will happen the exact same way. When she dies, the next owner will say that the Saints want to stay in NOLA. Then they’ll go to the state and say “Build us a 3 billion dollar stadium… NOW!” The state will be like “We’re broke. What about that $400 mil we dropped on the 50 year old Dome?!”

Then I’m gonna bump every thread I made in the last decade about how we really really REAAAAAALLLLY needed to have planned for what everybody with a brain could see coming a mile away.

It’s only a matter of time and I hate it. We should have been preparing for this but y’all all think the Dome is just as historic as Lambeau and Soldier Field - which I might add, is also likely to be replaced in the next few years.

What’s our plan? Is anybody in state government even thinking about this?

Gayle Benson is not going to sell the team. That's already been announced. After she passes, then the Saints and Pelicans will be sold by her estate.

The next round of stadium issues has also been announced. After the current renovations are finished, they want to sign a long-term lease with the Superdome for the Saints. Then, they will start discussions with the state about replacing Smoothie King Center for the Pelicans. They have some ideas already, but that is something for several years from now.

I don't have links, but this has all been reported on NOLA.com.

As far as Jacksonville goes, that new stadium is not a sure thing. Florio was discussing this today. Shad is going to fund half of it, but he needs to get city/state funding for the other half and that has not been approved as of yet. Florio thought releasing these drawings was a way to coax the relevant government into pushing the funding through.

Yeah but it’s Jacksonville

Saints aren’t going anywhere but NOLA crapping on any other city doesn’t help the argument.

When you factor in BR, the Bayou Parishes, and the MS Gulf Coast, the Saints have a mid sized market that is well over 2 million people.

This is a dumb arse subject.

Tom's Will provides that the Saints must move to San Antonio after the Super Bowl.

New Orleans will probably never get another team if the Saints leave because we’re such a small market. We’re passionate but small.
the saints are not as big the cowboys, niners, packers, bears, raiders but it’s a borderline top 10 fan base, top 15 for sure nationwide.

The Jacksonville renderings you're thinking of are for a $1.4 billion renovation of the existing stadium. Sound familiar? The Saints are just finishing a $500 million renovation of the Superdome. This is on top of the $350 million in renovations completed in 2011. I don't understand why people think the Saints need a new stadium, everything in it is practically new. Is there some huge waiting list for suites that I don't know about? Are there a bunch of people out there excited to pay more for a ticket after driving to God knows wherever a new stadium would be built?

I don't get it either. They want more taxes? They want the team to move? They are atl fans just trolling? They are rich folk who just want better amenities? This subject always comes back. Maybe its developers who want that property cause the location is at the top in the NFL. Its beautiful from the outside now. And as long as the structure is good you can do what you like on the inside to keep making it better.

I saw a proposal and a few renderings, they don't have the finances lined up so who knows what they will build in the next decade.

New stadiums are built so they can put in more suites and more premium seating. New suites and crazy amenities in the super-premium club do nothing for the normal fan.

I would love expanded concourses and some more windows if possible but the Dome gets the job done for the three hours I am there 8 times a year. Not having to drive 30-40 minutes outside the city or sit in terrible traffic makes everything easier to swallow.

Last part is key.

Best place to put a football stadium is where the Dome is right now.

it’s the perfect location their a reason the dome keeps getting Superbowls and Finals Fours no matter how many people complain about it being outdated.
