Looking back on it, that should be a felony.

The Saints and Colts both started 13-0. Manning was great and so was Brees. Any other year and he gets it.

Manning brand won the day.

This is why they should give this award out after season is done and over like people have said. It is a crime that this guy continues to churn out 5,000 yard seasons like it's a regular thing and hasn't won one damn MVP award, but the Brady's, Roger's and Manning's continue to get arse kissed. lol

Brees clearly outplayed Manning though

If only they would've played each other

Brees vs Manning in 2009 regular season:
Comp % - 70.6 (nfl record) vs 68.8
Yards - 4388 (293/g) vs 4500 (281/g)
Avg - 8.5 vs 7.9
TDs - 34 vs 33
TD % - 6.6% vs 5.8
Int - 11 vs 16
Int % - 2.1% vs 2.8%
Rating - 109.6 vs 99.9
That Passer Rating difference is ENORMOUS
It should have been a runaway, but Peyton Manning

He was absolutely robbed that year.

Apparently Manning snuck on the field for some defensive plays. That's why Brees had offensive player otY but not mvp

as we all know, its a popularity contest and not really about skill, they go with popularity or PC over talent every time

Peyton Manning was more established and had more familiarity with voters. Brees was better than Manning in every statistical way.

I know us Saints fans bitch about various years in which Brees should have won the MVP, but 2009 was an absolute robbery as indicated by your stats. That's what happens when you play in New Orleans instead of a traditional powerhouse.

Nb4..."but he won the award that matters. The Lombardi."

Brees and the Saints started 13-0, whereas Manning and the Colts started 14-0. That is what made the difference. The MVP award was decided the moment the Saints dropped to 13-1 while Manning stayed undefeated. Stats didn't matter at that point.

Drew won the Super Bowl MVP. I think he would take that over Season MVP any day.

The real miscarriage of justice is Brees not winning MVP in 2011, after leading the highest scoring offense in NFL history and breaking (his own) completion % record from 2009.
Losing the playoff game in San Francisco on such a big stage cost him, so they gave it to Aaron Rodgers as a lifetime achievement award, similar to Manning in 2009.
Vernon Davis just scored again! Man I get pissed every time I think about that game, F*CK!!!

if Brees puts up another 4,500 yd season and the Saints win the NFC South again... I think he gets it in a similar "lifetime achievement" way
even if his INTs are up a bit

Lifetime achievement award to a guy who had only been a starter for three seasons? Doesn't make sense.
Rodgersbalso had an insane TD/Int ratio that year too.

Rodgers had one of the best seasons ever in 2011, and that isn't how the MVP voting works. It's a regular season award
