To Soph: Generally we'll have a more limited playbook with Ivory but that's ok. If we need tough yards or to run clock then so be it, we don't need a ton of options, just a battering ram. There's no need for four great pass catching RBs on the roster.

We're talking about our fourth running back who, again, won't be active on game day unless he plays special teams or unless one of the top 3 is hurt.

Among our top three backs, both Thomas and Ingram have the ability to churn out tough yards or run the clock out.

The latter has been an often seen occurrence lately.

IMO, Ivory's spot is on very thin ice. Its not bc of some other RB tearing it up but bc

1. We have very good RBs ahead of him
2. he is very one-dimensional RB,
3. he doesn't play STs,
4. He has ball security issues and
5. he is injured a lot

If it comes to keeping a guy like Tom Johnson or Ivory then I would pick JOhnson every day of the week bc RBs not that hard to come by and we already have good depth

With all that being said there is something to be really said about a guy who really never gets stuffed and will always get you a yard or two

What does it matter if he's inactive every week?

That's one of the biggest collections of idiots on the internet. They had a thread one time discussing if Roddy White is a hall of famer. The consensus was he was with a couple of more solid seasons.

Not sure if serious...

I don't want to keep Ivory if it means dropping one of the DTs or WRs.

FWIW, i think both of y'all are stupid..

the only really way you can tell who was better than who would be to let them both run a series with the first string offense... would be really interesting, but i don't know if it would happen

How about a redundant fullback?

Ok...I just read the whole thread. Yikes.

Another LE vs. WDF. You two need to meet up and have a beer and I'm sure this won't happen as much.

Secondly, I have a hard time not agreeing with Lester here (no, I don't like it). Ivory, while I'd love for him to stay healthy and show the scrubs how to run, isn't doing that. Neither is Cadet. LE made a great point that the difference in PT and Ivory's first preseason is that they whooped arse against the scrubs. Cadet isn't really doing that. He had a nice game against the Cards but wasn't as effective against the Pats. I'm not sure I'd be read to crown him yet.

Also, I forget who mentioned the fact that the 4th RB will be inactive unless they contribute elsewhere...well, no body is getting returns ahead of Sproles, so thats out. The Saints have plenty of ST players with backup LBs, DBs, and WRs. I don't see Cadet making the active roster for that reason alone. However, if he happens to squeak through waivers, he will definitely be on the PS.

Again, I propose this question, should 2-3 of our RBs get hurt, and we are down to the last guy or 2, do you really want that guy to be Vadet? Ivory has started meaningful NFL games and proved his worth. Who cares how he has played this preseason. They know what he can do

ivory has started meaningful games but hasn't impressed me much since his initial burst onto the scene

Like I said earlier, Ivory's spot is in jeopardy but NOT bc of another RB IMO.

Cadet prob won't make the team either bc he will most prob be able to clear waivers and be placed on PS. This definitely will factor into the Saints final decision.

This. You can keep both Ivory and Cadet by dropping the second fullback. This can happen if Cadet shows special teams ability.

Dude had some good games last season. I'm not ready to part ways with him unless he completely shits the bed in the next couple of games.

They know he fumbles too much...lacks good blocking skills and gets hurt alot. They also know that he can flat out steam roll a guy.

Cadet? He's young...making rookie mistakes and not running hard between the tackles. They have also seen great moves in the open field and a multi talented guy.

I just don't think the position is settled at all. With Thomas back I think they can go with only one fullback.

Tanner and Roby have a real shot. Will be fun to watch along with the 0-line B.U. position battle.

Bring on a home game. Finally!

This is important and gets overlooked alot. However, I don't think they fill that extra FB spot with a RB. They go DB on that spot.

Also, the Saints will be cutting a decent LB. Probably a 2-string player for most teams.

I'm saying that because Chamberlain came in for Hawthorne and had a good game. Also, preseason super star, Casillas was all over again. Man, this dude needs to stay healthy. He was making plays everywhere and meeting RBs in the hole on more than one occasion.
