Help explain the rationale for Suspending Watson?

So if I’m to understand this correctly, many speculate Watson will be suspended. However, given that he was never arrested or charged, and by the grand jury failing to bring forth any charges based on the evidence, and I would gather he is denying wrongdoing what can you suspend him for?
Does that open up a dangerous precedent? What if teams have people make allegations and bring forth civil suits vs their opponents? Also is there any physical evidence like a tape or is it just some sketchy text messages. I’m not saying Watson is this innocent victim, but man with the NFLPA, I don’t know what grounds you can suspend him and have it hold up. Same thing with the bounty suspensions. Fight to a point and it goes away.

An employer has the right to discipline an employee however they deem appropriate. So even though DW may not be criminally negligible here, there is certainly grounds for determining he was using bad behavior. I believe the NFL will want to CYA and show they take these things seriously and I would not be surprised to see some fines/suspensions handed out. That said, Saints still land a huge win here if we can get him.

Big Ben’s case involved penetration IIRC. Watson’s is touching. I see those things differently in terms of punishment. Watson also sat out all of last season. He has done his time IMO.

I’m not even gonna disagree with that… I’m just pointing out that in 2022 people are completely irrational and entirely emotional when it comes to allegations of sexual assault

Zeke Elliott got suspended 6 games despite being cleared legally. It basically based on accusations (no arrests) that he abused his ex-GF

The NFL has to manage public perception of their brand. That means disciplining players that do things that they don't like.

To replicate the Watson's scenario - the opponent would have to find 22 people who have proof they worked for Watson as a therapist - then lie under penalty of perjury that they were assaulted.
Most players just use the professional athletic massage therapists that are paid for by the NFL teams - and its one or two regular therapists.
Why Watson has to run around town and one and done all the amateurs free lance therapists every night and then they all accuse him of the same thing is very strange?

The precedent is already there.
The nfl handles it based on their own investigation.
Less so the case these days but imagine a DA that is in bed with the team not charging a star player but there being ugly evidence public.
Conduct that tarnishes the shield has always been on the table
That said, without charges, a year sure feels like time served by the existing precedent
