What if Gregg Williams says that, so Colts will go Max protection, Then All he will do is play coverage. Colts will forever be looking for the "hit" that is suppose to be coming :)

“Here’s the deal. When you put too much of that type of worry on a warrior’s mind, he doesn’t play all out. If it happens, it happens. And the only thing you’d like for me to say is that if it happens you hope he doesn’t get back up and play again.”

Everyone seems to be overlooking this portion of what he said.

Exactly Ragin ... he said NOTHING that I'm sure any other DC hasn't said. Writer was trying to put words in GWs mouth.

Ide rather GW did not say this publicly however I doubt after games against Warner and Favre and the "Missed calls they are claiming on NFL Network on plays in which the ball is away from the QB"......I quite sure the refs are already instructed to protect Manning.

Undoubtedly, we will get at least 4 personal fouls for hitting Manning where as before GW's comments it was prolly gonna be 3.

FWIW I agree that if the refs are gonna put a dress on the QB's the hits have to count. The obvious solution to this is for each teams O line to never let it happen......let em play.

the day we won the NFCCG this thought was already in the minds of the Colts D. Do you think for 1 minute that they do not want to bring the pain to Brees? You don't think that the Vikings wanted to bring the pain to Brees. Our O Line did a great job on making sure that this did not happen. Have you watch any of our games this year especially the Cowboys game.

Brees was prayerfully able to take the licks that all our opponents dished out this year.

I'm far from an expert, but isn't getting hits and sacks on the quarterback defense 101? All he said was he wanted to get some hits, and that what the host wanted to hear is that he would take him out. He didn't say anything more, and certainly nothing for people to take offense to.

I suspect most of the posts I've seen on the Yahoo story is vikings fans whining like sore losers.

This. Between Williams' comments and the quotes from Favre's brother, Manning will have eyes in the back of his head and start running for his life. A career isn't worth a second ring.

Another, better perspective on this "controversy":

LINK

BTW, remember that the original article was by Vikings and Favre homer (and douche bag) Mike Florio, and thus should be taken with a grain of salt. As I and others have pointed out time and again, Williams did NOT say that he wanted to hurt Manning. Only fricking vaginas took an out of context quote to mean that.

I'm ok with our D being the "bad boys of the NFL" has a nice ring to it!

People complain about coaches who say nothing and think what GW said - like Bellichek
and they complain when GW says what he thinks.
and they complain when Rex Ryan talks.

Our fans really aren't used to the dissection of every comment prior to the superbowl. We need to get used to it.

Even if it came down to it, you'd have to love our chances if it were Brunell v Painter

This is a perfect example of how not only our society has become pussyfied, but also the NFL.

Trey Wingo almost cried on NFL Live when they played the clip. Even thought you could clearly hear Gregg Williams saying what you want me to say is...

jlc05,

I agree with you. Especially in light of the fact that the NFL said McCray should have been flagged for his cheap shot on Favre.

Did they also say there shouldn't have been a flag on Hargrove 2 plays earlier?

I think GW should have chosen his words more carefully. Instead of saying remember me shots which is kind of cute... he should have just said "Peyton Manning will be made our Bitch".

Actually, the article I read did not mention Hargrove at all. I don't understand the issue with admitting it was a cheap shot. I am elated that the Saints beat the Vikings and I am anything but a Favre fan. The facts remain, regardless of who is the QB, it was a cheap shot.

I don't think this statement is going to motivate the Colts anymore than they would have been. Everytime the defense hits the field, they hope to take out a big part of the opposing team offense as much as possible. Williams just said what every defense in the NFL is thinking.

Negative. From a rules standpoint, if we were at this time last year, it's not a "cheap shot".

Some people on this board, yeesh. Use your head.
