With the comments that were made by GW, the refs will probably not be in our favor.

Look at the comments from all over at the bottom

GW

The media was not going to be negative about the Saints because of the whole city rebuilding angle. Williams has now given them an opening.

It will be over analyzed to death until the game. It's now us against the world.

I know. They'll be looking for any kind of hit that is borderline and throw the flag now.
I think Gregg plays this one conservative unless on obvious passing downs, so Manning doesn't kill us with PA.

Much ado about nothing, it's football, not ping pong.

Disagree. Comments about hoping a player doesn't get up after taking a hit won't go over well.

He's just getting into Peyton's head (or trying to)

I just hope Brees doesn't pay for this with some cheap shots. Otherwise Williams

“This guy’s got a great clock in his head. The big thing is that he throws the ball so early that we’re going to have to do a good job of finding ways to get to him and when we do get to him we’re going to have to make sure he gets a couple ‘remember me’ shots when we get there ...”

quote:

“Here’s the deal. When you put too much of that type of worry on a warrior’s mind, he doesn’t play all out. If it happens, it happens. And the only thing you’d like for me to say is that if it happens you hope he doesn’t get back up and play again.”

What am I missing? I don't necessarily see anything vicious in there.

The media didn't want us to win the second Favre lost and Peyton won. This game won't be about bulletin board material and if it is, then the colts are stupid. This game is about winning the world championship, not about what a DC said. I guarantee you the Colts offense can't have anymore motivation to win a game this big than is already created by the hype that is the Super Bowl

The only thing that I saw that was "bad" was this:
quote:

"The first is that Williams is just being honest about something that every defensive coach probably says, which is, "Let's hit the quarterback, hit him often, hit him hard, and if he happens to get hurt, well hey, this is football, ladies."
and it wasn't SAID by Williams. It was written by the writer ... not as a Williams quote.

This is football ... of course we'll be trying to go after the QB ... just like all the ones before Manning.

Have you guys seen Williams' press conferences all year? He's a great DC, but has a bit of diarrhea of the mouth in that he likes to talk a lot.

That's why I say it's no big deal, it's just who he is. Just like Rex Ryan is who he is, etc.

Talking has nothing to do with who wins a game. Just like Rex Ryan's bluster had nothing to do with them beating the Chargers, nor nothing to do with the Colts beating them last week.

That's all that I'm saying.

Even though GW didnt say this:

quote:

It becomes a whole different thing, though, when you start talking about wanting to injure a player before the game. Not that Williams did exactly that here, but he got pretty close. Essentially, he said that he wouldn't mind a couple of personal foul penalties, and that if he does get one, he at least hopes that it injures Manning.

The media will be all over this in the up coming week making the Saints look like shite in the eyes of the viewer. Making our underdog status even lower and possibly retaliation from Colts D on Brees.

Who cares if fans of other teams don't like us? I wouldn't care if the Saints became the "Bad Boys" of the NFL as long as we're winning. FWIW, Sean Payton is a pretty cocky dude too.

Here's the link to the audio Interview from 104.5 The Zone in Nashville, TN. Scroll down the page and look to the right side for
"Prepping for Payton" and click on the audio link under Greg Williams. LINK

This is a great rare interview where the coach really says what he thinks.
