*My headline

quote:

Viewership was especially low in New Orleans, where only 26.1 percent of the market tuned into the game, according to Nielsen's overnight numbers -- by far the lowest since New Orleans became a metered ratings market in 1998.

New Orleans typically ranks among the top markets in the country when it comes to the percentage of the metro population watching Super Bowls or NFL games in general. By comparison, Super Bowl LII drew a 53.0 rating in New Orleans. The lowest Super Bowl rating in New Orleans in recent history was a 48.4 two years ago -- when the rival Atlanta Falcons were in the game.

This year, however, New Orleans actually reveled in boycotting the Super Bowl across the city to make a statement against the officiating error that helped keep the Saints out of the game.

Thousands of fans attended anti-Super Bowl events throughout the city, from the "Boycott Bowl" concert and "Blackout and Gold" second-line parade in the French Quarter to the "anti-LIE Bowl" block party uptown.

ESPN's Mike Triplett contributed to this report.

Super Bowl LIE lowest rated SB since 2007

Was hoping that it would be the worst ever, but considering we are living now in a time where anyone can literally watch it on anything, im happy about that. Shouldve sent a message.

Just think from now until eternity people will scroll down the list of Super Bowls and their TV ratings and wonder why there was a substantial dip in 2019. The answer will be New Orleans. Truthfully it wasn't New Orleans alone, there were a lot of contributing factors, but the Saints no call and boycott will be on top.

But muh muh muh nobody cares but Saints fans.

I love it. Would've loved to watch Brees test that patriots defense but this will serve as a little consolation.

I think everyone lost and it became very clear LA will never be a football town. Both those teams will be moving out of LA real soon. NO did not win a damn thing.

Rams fans just got some nice swells and hopped out the water to have the guy at Jamba Juice tell them they just lost the SB

We hit em where it hurts.

I'm impressed by the overall effort by both fans and media.

Between Refgate and the AD trade demand, the Asterisk Bowl was barely spoken about during the two weeks leading up to it.

The most frustrating thing is that Goodell doesn't give a shite one way or another.

He's still collecting his $40mm a year to be fake. He's like Vince McMahon except that VM openly admits to his viewers that WWE is just entertainment, while Goodell is still out there trying to convince the world that the NFL is still legitimate.

Yeah, bur between this and all the lawsuits and negative publicity resulting in 10+ year low ratings, there's a point at which the owners will have had enough and will get rid of him.

I think he's one more moderate-to-severe mistake away from being gone.

Boston had the nation's best rating this year, 57.1. Rams ratings have been low in Los Angles compared to those for teams in other cities since the club returned to Southern California from St. Louis three seasons ago, and that trend continued Sunday. LA finish 33rd among the 56 major U.S. cities in which ratings are tracked electronically, producing a 44.6 rating. That was the second-lowest figure for a market with a team competing in the game, according to records that date to 1987. The only worse figure was 40.6, in New York for the Giants-Baltimore Ravens matchup in 2001. The Rams played in two Super Bowls during their time in St. Louis. The rating in 2000 was 55.6, and in 2002 was 52.4. Sunday’s game pitted what many St. Louisans consider the two most despised teams locally, and the rating in the Gateway City was 39.8 (KMOV, Channel 4). That ranked 53rd nationally. Last year, the Super Bowl did a 41.6 rating in St. Louis, also 53rd.

This war will not be won until Roger Goodell is fired and replaced with a commissioner that's fair, honest, impartial and will not frick over teams no matter how big or small the market they play in just to boost the NFL's bottom line, protect its shield or boost another team.

Roger Goodell is destroying the NFL's credibility. He's a cancer.

Yes, build a 5 billion dollar stadium and then have both occupants vacate. That is real likely.

Yes, unfortunately, the NFL has ponied up a lot of its own money to build that $5B stadium. THey are not leaving any time soon. The Rams in particular will play in front of mostly empty/visitor crowds for the next couple of decades until they limp out of town again. Somehow in all of this, Goodell will toot his own horn.

Your headline sucks. The Saints didn't win crap. They got screwed. I'm glad the game got historically low ratings and I did my part by not watching. I think the Saints would've won if they had played in the game because they have a coach and a QB who've both been there before. It would've been a better game either way.

But the Saints didn't win the war. They're still the victim. Think of how many players just saw their last or only chance to win a Super Bowl ring get stolen from them. Do you think the low ratings provide them any comfort? Of course not.
