Geno was legitimately a top 6 QB last year and ascended

Carr was worse than Andy Dalton last year and declined

Geno is probably worth that money. Carr isn’t. Homerism biases lie, but game film doesn’t.

our cap situation is a myth

Don't you know? EVERY year is the year it's going to catch up with us....

Loomis outright said you can keep on borrowing out from future years until the league ends or they change the way the cap works. This also makes sense in the fact that the cap almost always goes up (outside extraordinary circumstance). The percentage of the money used in future years will almost always be less than the money used from the current year.

It doesn't make sense to not borrow from future years as long as you want to remain competitive. Regardless of what some fans think, we haven't given up on our team and are still pushing for the playoffs.

Let's look at Carr's stats compared to Smiths at the same point in their career, not just one good year.

Lol. It’s amazing that people are citing this last year for geno for ANY argument about anything whatsoever

None of you simping for Geno remember that this was basically his best year. Had a freak year and banked. He has never been better than Carr outside of 2022.

Like I said above. It’s amazing that anyone is using this last year for geno in ANY argument about anything lol

What exactly do some people think you are going to have to pay for a legit starter in this league? Carr might not be Mahomes but he is a legit starter so it’s going to cost you 35 or around there. Unless you want to just tank for 2-3 years.

Geno earned it. Good for him.

But your point is valid.

Whether or not Carr signing with us is good or bad is a moot point. Both sides are firmly entrenched in whether they hate it or like it.

But even SFP acknowledges that Carr is worth 30-35million. He’s firmly in that tier with Cousins. That’s what you have to pay guys like that, guys that normally don’t become available.

They won’t win a Super Bowl with Geno Smith. My attitude with these contracts has kinda changed though. Signing Derek Carr does get you closer to winning a Super Bowl as much as it just keeps you further from the bottom of the league and hell you might get luckily and have a good run in the playoffs. When you start losing double digit games you start losing fans.

I watch plenty and I know QB’s better than most.

I shouldn’t have to explain this to you, but Geno led the goddamn league in completion percentage last year, while also being top 5 in YPA, TD’s, and throwing limited INT’s

While Leading a team to the playoffs that everyone thought was destined to a 3-4 win season.

And if you watch the games. It wasn’t flukey at all. He was making great reads, great throws from the pocket and on the run all season.

If I was grading QB’s on a 1-10 scale last year.

Geno’s season would be an 8 or 9. Carr would’ve been about a 3 or 4. The chasm was wide. There is no way they should be getting paid the same salary moving forward. Geno was so much better than Carr it was jarring.

Maybe you don’t watch much ball, but you should at least remember our team beating Carr 20-0. Probably should’ve been 40-0, but we honestly played terribly on offense that day.

Meanwhile Taysom Hill had to run for 250 yards to beat Geno and the Seahawks 42-38.

That’s just 2 games out of about 30 we can look at. If you look at the other 28 games, it’s more of the same. Carr is not in the same stratosphere as Geno Smith.

It isn’t 2017 anymore.

Yes and I'm not saying Geno is better than he is. Theoretically he could be, but that's projecting from a limited sample size which is not smart. Carr has been the vastly superior QB over their careers. It's not up for debate.

I think he's in the tier below Cousins but the top of that tier.

Wow these nega- Saints just don’t give up. Constant leakage and sound like bitches. Can u just hope Carr plays well, we draft well, and sign some guys in free agency that help.
I love reading the board but it sucks with all these keyboard GM’s that know we will fail before Carr throws his 1st pass.

I hope he’s good

I just chime in when people say dumb shite like Carr is going to lead us to multiple NFC CG and that he’s currently better than Geno Smith.

I’m a Saints homer, but I refuse to be an idiot for the sake of being one.

I hope Carr does well. He’s an elite human being and I like those at the QB position.

But he’s not going to come in and GM fix everything. We still have a lot of sloppy shite to clean up organizationally before we can perhaps legitimately compete again.

all of this.

and the whole "The cap doesn't mean anything because you can keep borrowing from the future" is absolutely bullshite. You can only hold off on paying these players what they want so long. I saw the same thing with the Giants during Eli's last several years. Eli kept letting them backload his contract restructures so they could afford better supporting cast(and they fricked that up every year). Eventually, Eli said "No, I plan to retire in a couple years" and ate the frick out of their cap his last few years.

It's quite literally how we're in the position we are right now.

No one is rooting against Carr and you're an absolute idiot if you think any one actually is. He's just yet to show that he can put the team on his back and overcome bad coaching/playcalling(this is quite literally how people defend his last season) to be worth the amount we'll pay him vs giving Dalton a raise.

If he only gets us one or two more wins than what Dalton would give us...then it probably wasn't worth it.

Just so we're clear......If Carr shows us that he's the missing link of the offense puts up 25-30 points a game, there will be no one happier to eat crow than I will be.
