Let's say we trade a 4th round pick for Carr. And lose Davenport for $16mil per year.

we lose a 4th but likely gain a 3rd in compensatory picks for Davenport since we didn't "SIGN" someone of equal value.

But let's say we just sign Carr. Then Carr and Davenport cancel each other out and we get no pick.

This is not even counting based on speculation that a trade for him would also reduce our cap hit.

We trade a 4th, get Carr, a 3rd and more cap room
VS
signing Carr, less cap room and no improved pick.

As others have said, we are essentially trading the opportunity to select Garrett Grayson or Ian Book for a guy that can win games tomorrow.

I’m not worried about the draft pick. It’s his contract.

If its a third the Raiders need to take on some of his salary.

You’re cherry picking Grayson or Book.

What about selecting Alvin Kamara or Terron Armstead?

Carr is moderately better than the QBs we already have. Trading away a 3rd rounder would be criminal.

I want Carr, but if we give up anything more than a 6th we should riot

The roster needs an influx of young talent

The best way to do that is through the draft

Trading away one of those assets for QB who isn’t any better than Andy Dalton is not going to do anything to make this roster better

For anyone praising trading a draft pick for Carr, do you not realize it’s all about Dennis Allen trying to save his job instead of putting the Saints in a position to be a serious contender?

The Saints’ ceiling with Carr is the divisional round. Is that what you want for the next few years?

It’s time to reset this franchise to build a foundation for the future, not try to save the job of a terrible head coach.

You seriously wouldn't trade a third for Derek Carr?? I think he's way better than the guys you have now especially if he had a good coach.

It’s not about the draft pick per se. it’s a question of what Carr is going to cost and whether he’s worth it.

I don’t think he’s worth it. We will end up winning 6-8 games while not digging ourselves out of the salary cap hole we are in.

I would not trade a 3rd for Carr, no.

Like I said, I want Carr. He’s not great, but he’s probably good enough.

But the dude is getting cut in 6 days...

If Carr wants to be a Saint he’ll come anyway.

I’m not giving up the opportunity to draft Alvin Kamara, Terron Armstead, or Jimmy Graham for a stopgap QB whose marginally better than Winston or Dalton.

Realistically none of those 3 QBs are good enough to win a super bowl, especially with this coaching staff. So no I’m not willing to trade a pick in a round that we’ve historically found good pieces in.

If we want to “secure” Carr I’d toss them a conditional 6th or 7th. Who are we bidding against?! He’s only gone to New Orleans... nobody else is so dumb to give up good draft capital for someone who will be cut 6 days.

This is crazy world, he’s getting cut in 6 days. Why give them anything.

If Vegas is not eating some of his contract, no way I would give them a 3rd. Let him hit FA and make the best offer then, I bet it'd be less than the 40 mil per year on his current one.

And the fact that at times when he played (not as much this year) he was a force.
