Regular season: 1979 season opener vs. Falcons.

I was in the end zone where Russell Erxleben muffed the punt and threw the INT to the Atlanta player in the end zon

This was my first Saints game as well. Besides the snap over the head to end the game I remember Chuck Muncie throwing a bomb to Wes Chandler on a half back option.

1st preseason game: August, 1970 (Age 7)
Tulane Stadium
Detroit 31 Saints 17
Detroit had Greg Landry, Bill Munson, Lem Barney and Alex Karras)
((Aside, 3 months later, we played the same team in Tulane Stadium - Nov. 8, to be exact ;)
Remember what happened ???

1st regular season game: September 1971
Saints 24 Cowboys 14
Tulane stadium record record 83,214 (per 'Gridweek' magazine)
Saints upset the future Super Bowl champions of that season. Hugo Hollas, wearing Archie's #18,
intercepted Craig Morton on Dallas' first drive of the game in the Saints' end zone.
Archie scored game-clinching TD in fourth quarter on run around the right side.

1978 — Falcons vs. Saints: Falcons win 20–17 on a 57-yard Hail Mary from Steve Bartkowski to Alfred Jackson.

It was excruciatingly painful.

If I remember correctly, didn't the Falcons beat us twice that year with the Big Ben.

Yep

Saints led that game 17-6 with like 2 minutes left! Atlanta scored, kicked off, we couldn't get a first and punted with just seconds left.
Then....on the last play - defeat. I've never heard the Dome go from loud to so quiet...

Two weeks later, we lost at Atlanta, by the same score! 20-17 on a controversial interfernece call in the end zone near the final gun - Bartkowski pass to Atl. TE.

Then, in the opener of '79, we lost to the Dirty Birds AGAIN, this time 40-34 - exactly DOUBLE 20-17 !!! - on Erxleben's intercepted pass after a high punt snap in OT...

I'm pretty sure it was against the 49ers in the early '90s

Correct. Thankfully, I didn't attend that one.

That first game in the Dome more than any other started me on my long road of hating the Falcons with a passion.

My first Saints game was in 2006 against the Bucs when Reggie Bush had his first touchdown on the punt return. The Dome went nuts

My first game was the rams wildcard victory. Hakim dropped the ball in front of our section. It was legendary.

don't remember the year, but Doug Brien kicked a bazillion FGs to beat the Rams.... I think it also happened to be Tom Dempsey Day in the dome

ETA: just looked it up ... 11-5-95 ... Brien's first game as a Saint ... he was 4-4 on FGs and the Saints won 19-10

I had my fill of preseason games. Easiest tickets to get a hold of. Just can't justify paying the money they are asking now for regular season games.

I guess this officially makes me the oldest person here. I make 60 this Saturday. Yes, my first game was the Saints first game ever - in Tulane Stadium. My dad and I had season tickets on the 45 yardline behind the visiting team about 15 rows up from the field. When John Gilliam ran the the opening kickoff back for a touchdown against the Los Angeles Rams, we were pouring Dixie beer all over ourselves. We were soaked but we didn't care. Al Hirt, pigeons, hot air balloons and beer we could take into the stadium. I remember it like it was yesterday and I'll never forget it. Thanks for those memories dad !!!

My first Saints game was a pre-season game when we opened the Super Dome for the first time against the Houston Oilers. Dad and I got there early and we walked down to the field and started talking to the biggest man that I had ever seen. He turned out to be some offensive lineman on the Oilers team.
I don't remember the date or anything, I was in elementary school.

1968 - The last game of the season vs. Pittsburgh. Steelers were the doormat of the league in those days. Saints won. Saints had 4 wins all year and two were against Pittsburgh.

The first home game at the Superdome on 9/28/75 vs the Bengals. The great Tommy Casanova played for Cincy. From the little that I can remember about the game other than the shutout loss, the 4th quarter became a paper airplane show from the terrace.
Bengals vs Saints box score
