Falcons request interview for Nielsen
Posted by Sauce Castieaux

The Falcons have requested to interview Saints co-DC/D-line coach Ryan Nielsen for their defensive coordinator vacancy, per league sources. Nielsen's work in recent years with New Orleans’ defensive front is highly regarded around the league.-Bruce Feldman

We can deny a lateral move or is this somehow a promotion because it’s not a co-DC title?

I feel like its not a lateral move but the Saints will try to paint it as such to keep him from going.
Curious how this plays out.

The Saints have to let him do this regardless oh his supposed title of co-Dc we all know it’s Allen’s defense. They would not be popular within coaching circles if they blocked him from interviewing for a real DC job.

It can be seen as a problem for any future coaches potentially coming here.
We have enough shite we have to work out without potentially seen as a team blocking coaches from better opportunities.
And yes, being the only DC is such a step up from being a neutered co DC

That should be a lateral move, not a promotion. Screw the Falcons. They wouldn't let LSU take him. Pay him and tell the Falcons to go take a flying f......

Nielsen should have been the HC over Allen

Notice how this came out days ago and yet we've heard nothing about them actually receiving permission. They've since moved on to guys like Flores and Fangio

Didn't Loomis say they would deny all permissions for lateral moves?

I think so... but there is an argument to be made that being the lone DC is a promotion from being a Co-DC that probably ultimately still answers to Allen.
I doubt there are many guys in the league that want to co coach lol

Meh, I don’t care. Onyemata has declined. Davenport has declined. Payton Turner does nothing. And none of the guys on the d line get strips or recover fumbles.
Just let this guy and anyone else on staff or the team go wherever they want.
Bunch of losers on this team/staff. Best to hit the reset.
