They did not go with Rattler because he was "better". They were shielding Shough from the brutal beginning of the season and letting him learn on the sidelines how NFL games go. Its not anything new and was apparent to anyone with a brain what was going on.

I don't think the staff was expressly "shielding" Shough from the schedule as much as they were just going with the experienced QB (relatively speaking since Shough had never played an NFL game) to start the season. Once it became clear the team wasn't going to win with Rattler at QB and the likelihood of a potential winning season was lost they started to transition to Shough. But I don't think that was a pre-determined plan. For instance, if the Saints were 3-4 or 3-5 going into the Rams game I don't think Shough starts that game.

As for Rattler, his problem has never been ability. Even going back to college. It's been consistency. That's why he was often decent between the 20s but struggled to put the ball in the endzone. Right now he is a "cheap" backup for a team that doesn't have huge expectations. If he's on the roster to start the season, great. But if a QB desperate team is willing to give the Saints anything beyond a 6 or 7 round pick in a trade the Saints have to strongly consider it.

If he's good enough for another team to trade for him, to replace him with a similar caliber QB would be much more expensive. The value of a good backup if your starter is down a couple games is huge. Saints would have to get a premium to take the risk. Excluding player for player, anything less than a 3rd is not worth it.

He may Leap to another team if one needs him badly enough to make a trade.

frick no. Ratt is a great #2, cheap and can run our offense. Has starting experience and has chemistry with the team. I like having him as a backup.

People are going too far on Rattler because posters like whatiknowsofar were arguing in bad faith about the QBs late into last season. Rattler improved from 2024 to 2025. He’s young and could still improve to a good backup / low end starter. I’d rather have him around in case Shough gets hurt than Zach Wilson.

What is it with the boner some posters have for trading Ratt? Since Tyler took over last year it hasn't stopped. Thread after thread. It's not complicated. Until Ratt is no longer considered the second best QB by the coaches shut the f@ck up lol

To what? Losses?

He's 1-13 as starter. What is his value of a backup? That the Saints will still lose, but maybe have moments where they don't look as bad doing so? If a rival NFC South team had backup QB who was 1-13 and they turned down decent draft compensation Saints fans would laugh at that team.

Next year is the last year of his contract. Obviously that means if the Saints want to keep him beyond that they would have to pay him more than he's making now. If you are unlikely to keep him beyond next season anyway and another team is willing to give you decent compensation (likely in the form of a draft pick) then you have to consider if the compensation is reasonably high. Is there a risk because you are letting your (presumed) backup leave? Sure. But is it really that big of a risk when nearly a full season of data shows the team can't win games with him at QB? Whether you lose with Rattler or lose with Wilson you still lose. If you are going to lose either way then why not get some degree of compensation out of it (if reasonable)?

A few things

If we are not better than last year fire everybody.
If Ratt doesn't improve from last year fire him.
I doubt the team is looking at its back up QBs as losers like you are.
In your opinion why are we paying what we are. We could get two automatic losers a lot cheaper to play losing football at QB.

They kept Ratt after last year and its not because they think he can't win a game.

You say look at his record. Well look at Aikmans first year record. No of course not Aikman but the point is young players can get better and they obviously think he can improve. Hell I bet Ratt loves a better Oline, a better RB room, a much better WR and TE room.

Anyone disagreeing with you is legit retarded. Zach Wilson sucks. Rattler is in year 2 of a system with a decent team around him. Last year and year before he was surrounded by garbage. He did make some stupid decisions his last 2 games he started but it was against playoff teams.

Surrounded by dogshit playing vs literally playoff teams last year. Year before was even more abysmal.

You said it yourself. Who is going to trade for a QB that can't win?

This is the apparent disconnect. I'm NOT saying the Saints should fire/cut him.

I'm simply saying that IF someone is willing to offer decent compensation for him then the Saints should consider the deal. That may and probably won't be the case given his past performance. But if a team is desperate pay the Saints something of potentially significant value then why not? Because you don't want to run the risk of losing a QB which history shows you can't win with? He has value as a cheap backup. But that value may not outweigh the value of decent draft compensation. Particularly for a team that (a) thinks they have their franchise QB and (b) wants to continue building through the draft.

Put it like this. I have an old farm truck. It's a decent truck. It serves a limited purpose well. I have no reason to get rid of it for nothing. But if someone comes along and offers me $30k (well above its value) for it, then that is a different discussion. I can find an old beater truck for $10k - $15k to serve the same purpose while pocketing $15k - $20k. The truck has value to me now. But $30k in exchange for it would have MORE value than the truck.

at one point.

i'll die alone. don't bother me. taysom had all of the correct excuses as well for any typical qb not being able to be super successful. He had a shite OL. shite weapons for a period of time. The team went through some very bad situations at times. Payton tried to make taysom go out there and play like drew brees instead of playing like taysom hill.

The problem is he couldn't be the dogshit teams either. Then, a rookie QB comes in with the same "dogshit" Rattler was surrounded by and at least shows he's capable of beating other dogshit teams.

If he can't beat the good teams, and he can't beat the dogshit teams (unless that team is so dogshit it turns the ball over 5x) then....

Why are our coaches so stupid?
And I thought Moore was good at identifying good QBs and designing a great offense. Why is he ruining our chances of winning a single game without Tyler? Is he really a coach worth keeping?

Rattler played playoff teams. What dogshit teams are you talking about?

2024

Raiders

2025

Cardinals
Tampa

The average margin of defeat in those three games was 14 points.

My apologies though. I was unaware there was a small, but apparently very determined, group of the Rattler fan club that evidently believes Rattler is indispensable at any cost. Maybe it's just me, but if a team wants to give you a 5th, hell, if they are really nuts, a 4th round pick for a backup with a 1-13 record that might be a value worth considering.

I'm NOT saying the Saints should cut the guy or trade him for tackling dummies and jockstraps

3 teams out of 14. One under Dennis Allen, one his first game under a new system, and a division rival. He could have tied Arizona but somebody dropped the ball.

Either way he's not starting but that 1-14 record is NOT all on him. I clearly remember Kamara going through the motions, not even wanting to be out there. Play calling sucked with Rattler in. Everything got better with Shough. So was it coaching,? players don't like Rattler? I don't know but he didn't suck except for his last 2 games.

Shough is better and we'll get to see if he continues winning or has a sophomore slump. I'm hoping we win the division.

Lol
Your analogy says " its a decent truck".
You said Ratt can't even win a game against crap teams and will not in the future.
Does that sound decent?
