Edit: with new quote from Glazer. (about the best insider for the Saints)

Below is outdated as soon as it was posted.

LINK

quote:

A few seasons ago, Brees reported to the Saints’ practice facility and announced that he would no longer throw passes on Wednesdays.

Teammates expected the disruption to cause Brees to “lose his mind,” Strief would say later, but this was calculus and the quarterback had done his figuring. The arms of NFL quarterbacks, especially those reconstructed like Brees’s was before signing with the Saints in 2006, are like racing tires: only so much tread in their lifetimes. By then Brees was in his mid-30s and wanted to save some energy for Sundays. And so, yes, the routine changed and neither the Saints facility nor Brees’s emotional state caved in on itself.

Brees, with his analytical mind, is less interested these days in overpowering the odds or doubters than his own body. His legs might be slower, his arm might feel weaker, but his brain is constantly scanning for other advantages. There are more hours dedicated to visualizing plays than there once were, more time spent memorizing scenarios and bracing for possibilities. There are two more numbers that drive him: one more Super Bowl championship, and 45. That’s the age that, if his mind can continue operating faster than his body can deteriorate, he believes he can reach as an NFL quarterback.

Not sure how I feel about this. Yes, if he's still producing at the same clip, it's obviously great that he's still here, but that would essentially send Bridgewater packing and we're back to square 1 as an heir apparent.

Nuh uh.
Dual quarterback system.

shite, triple quarterback system with Hill.

How do you defend against that?
You can't.

Tag and trade is an option no?

I fully expect us to tag him if we can't come to a short term deal.

I've got an news flash for you guys: he's not going to play until he's 45.

A lot of guys say this.

He will play for 1 to 2 more years and that will be that.

As a team player, I think his main thought is he wants to see it through with this new crop of guys for the next 2-4 years and try to win a Super Bowl. Now if they accomplish that at any point, I could see him calling it a career.

As a competitor and with my fan hat on, you have to believe he cherishes all these records he’s accumulating though and is just now getting to the biggest ones. With Brady being so close to him, I could see him wanting to outlast Tom terrific by a year to ensure he sets and keeps the yardage and TD records. At least for a few years after he’s done if not far longer.
