Just my thought process but Mayes replaces Williams in that high safety slot and honey badger replaces ceedy if he is part of the watson deal. Not ideal but that's where I think we are headed.

Yeah, I don’t think Honey Badger was a legit replacement for Williams. I don’t know about the money, but Ceedy, Jenkins, and Badger are all too similar to play together imo. I don’t think Badger makes sense on the field unless we trade Ceedy.

You take it in a heart beat but I think people under estimate CGJ. Football isn’t all about PFF stats etc. Sure that plays into part of evaluating a player but football is an emotional game and CGJ has an edge to him that changes a defense. Very similar to the honeybager. You need that on a defense and yes his coverage skills may be replaceable but he is a big part of why the defense has evolved into something special. You need guys like him on any great defense. Not all 11 but you need a few of those guys. There are numerous different defenders I would try and put in a trade before CGJ. That’s just my take

If we get Watson I think we have to give up CeeDee Deuce and Davenport. If Lewis' IG live is correct about 2 defensive players being included in the trade.

quite a pay disparity, and considering our cap situation, not sure we can really afford to be replacing cheap players on early year deals, like CGJ, with vets commmanding 8 figures yearly...

look, i'd love it, bc we get a franchise QB, and a more than capable replacement for a player included in the deal to get that franchise QB, but not sure how the money works...

i know, i know... Loomis... but there are some things that just logically don't fall in line sometimes...

It’s always been the Saints policy to get rid of a player one year too early than too late and this applies with a Malcolm Jenkins, a Sean Payton guy not a Dennis Allen guy. Cutting him gives us $7.5 million in cap space which is plenty to sign Mathieu with the way Khai Harley can structure deals and he plays the exact role that Jenkins plays in our defense. This will be more important especially if we have to give up CJGJ also. I say go for it. Yes he’s o ly 5’9” but his size has never hindered him and he’s only 29 so he’s got another 3 good years in him at least. I don’t see him setting the safety market although I might be wrong but if we offer him something like 3 years $36 million to come home he just might do it. Williams got 5 years but he’s only 25 but in the end even he only got $14 mil per. To come play for the Saints I think $12 mil per year would be a damn strong offer that he would have to really think about.

Mathieu only comes here if we trade CGJ or cut Jenkins. He would be a good player to fill the CGJ role, as they are basically the same player.

maybe when he was young and fast, but why would we be all excited to get him now that he is slow and his best years are behind him?

just seems like you just get a big name rather then a big talent

Any restructured contracts basically mean we are keeping those players.
