I fall somewhere in the middle on this. I do find it absolutely hilarious yet ridiculous that people think you can find equal talent like Kamara in the later rounds. Kamara is one of the most uniquely gifted players in the league. With that being said i'm never high on paying rbs crazy money. But, after this year if the saints do negotiate I don't think they will have to pay him market breaking money. I do think they will pay him around 10 mill a year on avg and I'm ok with it. I did not like the fact that he didnt roll out into the slot more often. I think a lot of people feel the way you do because of the frustrating year he had. He was very banged up with some serious injuries most of the year. I think we can all agree that our offense isn't what it's supposed to be without this type of RB in our backfield.

We won games without him. Murray had incredible numbers while he was on the bench injured. He's not worth even 10 million. Maybe 6.5 - 7 million. Finally, Sean likes to keep him on a pitch count, but his agent won't care about that.

I think Murray could easily eclipse 1000 yards and he's durable, and good at catching the ball.

Plus he's a cheaper contract.

I would definitely pay 6.5-7M for him. Especially on a shorter deal (2 years)

If he wants more though it’s a tougher conversation.

Case in point, RBs in the super bowl - a bunch of nobodies.

The 49ers have a quarter of their salary cap dedicated to RBs, including the 8th highest paid RB and the highest paid FB

McKinnon - $7.5 mil per
Juscyck - $5.5 mil per
Coleman - $4.2 mil per
Mostert - $2.9 mil per

They’re heavily invested in the run game

That's a good approach. I would rather have a bunch of good backs like that, than have the money tied into one. Doubt McKinnon will make that money. There's already articles saying he's making too much. He will likely have to renegotiate or be released.

Regardless of how you feel about Murray it doesn’t change the fact that we have never operated without a committee approach. We did win games with Murray who i am a fan of. He’s also 30 years old. I get not wanting to pay Kamara Elliot money but you better believe if he’s willing to accept 10 mill avg he will be a saint for a handful of more years.

They let Ingram walk who wanted more.. Also, I don't believe it would be Murray alone. I never said it would be one back. Kamara is not worth 10 million. I'd rather have 2 backs that can perform near that. Sean is on his third back that can line up at wide receiver. I'm sure he can find another.

That's the way to do it versus paying one guy a la Gurley/Zeke. Even in that example McKinnon's contract is bad, but they lucked out with Mostert.

Agree to disagree. I don’t care what the total dollar amount is of a contract. It’s all about the guaranteed money. Kamara healthy and producing what he was his first year and second year is easily worth 10 mill a year and then some. I’m not sure how anyone could deny that.

I think he’s more valuable than some other posters do, because I don’t really judge him by this season alone. However, I’m not so sure that it makes to pay a ton to a running back these days. Probably not the position devote the bulk of your salary to.

We need to make him an offer that we can live with, and if he walks, he walks.

We have too many other guys to sign that are harder to replace.

Draft CEH sign to 4 year rookie contract, then trade Kamara for future draft picks.

This year really opened my eyes in regard to Kamara. He showed he cannot be an every down back. Playing the RB position you get the hell beat out of you and your normally playing with some type of injury all year. What makes Kamara special is his ability to break tackles and his elusiveness. After Kamara was injured earlier in the season he lost his ability to break tackles and in most cases went down on the first hit. He is not worth record breaking money. He is a great player but he is a system player that fits well in Payton’s scheme.

We could have a chance to do so if we’d stop trading our 2nd and 3rd round picks almost every year.

Kamara is a system player? I swear i read the most ridiculous things i could ever imagine on here. Players get hurt. This is football and it happens. He had a high ankle sprain and a really bad knee bruise and you’re wondering why he was as elusive as usual and why he wasn’t breaking as many tackles. lol. Wow!

It’s weird how some fans make every excuse possible for a back who is often injured and not an every down player. Saints need to trade him and get someone with more durability and less drama

I won’t be at all shocked if they trade Kamara much like Cooks. He’s a huge part of the offense but not irreplaceable to Sean’s system and his market will just be too much for the Saints when they need to pay Ramcyzk, Lattimore and Marcus Williams. If AK would do a deal around $45-50 million I think the Saints would go for it then but not $60-65 million.

That’s just an unintelligent comment.

No you don't overpay him, but you also don't let him walk based on bad contracts of overrated players elsewhere. That's myopic

When they are all bad contracts you have to question if there’s more to be said about it than just the players not being that good
