it really is and is a complete insult IMO. This is 2022, not 1970. No one is not going to hire or interview a candidate for a job based upon their race.

The Spirit behind the rule is two fold
1) It gives a Coach like Allen interview experience, so maybe next time if he does not get the job he is better prepared for the type of questions and what they are looking for.
2) It floats him name out there and either puts him on the radar or makes it understandable for the next team to bring him in. As in the Saints thought enough of him to give him a look.

Rooney rule is so patronizing. I would be offended if I were a black coach. Oh, we know who we want but we have to interview you anyway so let's get this over with. Sit down.

Oh really. African Americans comprise over 65% of the NFL players yet less than 3% of upper management and you don’t see a need for the Rooney Rule? You are either stupid or dumb ( maybe both).

Dennis Allen would be my 1st choice because of the continuity int the organization. Brian Flores, Eric Bienemy and Aaron Glenn would be high on my list but has nothing to do with race. I just want the best coach going forward.

Are you saying in summation that African Americans are worthy as players only but not as managers and administrations? Additionally, are you imputing that they la k the intellectual capacities to lead organizations? After all, over 60% of players in the league comprise of nonwhite ethnic groups. Your statement is illogical for a number of reasons.

Yes, stupid racist rule. If everyone is on board with Dennis Allen just stepping right in how would you feel if you were a black coach called in to interview just so they can check the box. Would you even bother to fly in? On the other hand say Allen went to another team then yes go ahead an interview as many a necessary, including qualified black coaches.

The Rooney rule at least affords minority candidates to at least present their qualifications. This is something that was never done before.

A couple of years ago there was a discussion about this very topic when a name recognition coach was interviewed and offered a position immediately. Apparently, there used to be an understanding that if you already have your guy in mind, it would be unnecessary as it would basically make a mockery of the process. But, I believe they changed that shortly after the above scenario because the league saw the benefit in at least having the minority coaches go through the process. Plus, it ensures other coaches get fair consideration (which isn't true if you already know who you're hiring).
In other words, they were tired of seeing he same old white guys getting the same jobs so they mandated that every HC & GM position must have at least 1 minority interviewed. They may have extended that to Coordinators and other executive positions, but not 100% on the mandate part for those positions. Although that would make more sense than HC & GM as the minority coaches will need the coordinator/executive experiences to even be considered for HC/GM

I will say this, even if they are going with Allen they really should bring in Josh McCown. Not because he has any shot whatsoever, but so Houston will make him the HC. Then McCown may be able to get the GM to give us some BoB trade value

It's not racist--it's just outdated.
The initial implementation of it had merit---but it's no longer needed.
Similar to HBCUs---they were very necessary at one time. (I went to SU)

What if Allen was the guy but happened to be black; would they still have to go through the minority interviews?
