...if a successful HC chooses to step aside because "it is time" and the organization has already done their due diligence internally believing the best route is keeping as much stability/continuity as possible?

Seems like it would be silly in this instance that an organization be forced to consider a complete tear-down and rebuild. We've got one of the best organizations over the past 16 years and it's been carefully cultivated/developed, and a true WINNING CULTURE pervades where once a culture of failure, loss and cluelessness reigned.

I get the idea that sometimes it's ok to let it be just an interview opportunity to be open-minded about "unknown" minority candidates, but why does that always apply only to HCs? In theory, (if you feel like that kind of "affirmative action policy" is a good thing) shouldn't it apply to all coaching positions?

Anyway... If the Saints are actually REQUIRED to interview a black man as a "potential" HC even if they feel like the best way forward is Allen, for instance, wouldn't that just be borderline offensive/just "checking a box"? Kinda like all the June "Pride month" Rainbows all over retail everything -- if I were gay, I'd feel like they are just using "me" for profit...

It’s extremely racist. But yes they have to do it.

Well we're interviewing Aaron Glenn because he is a friend of the organization and to do him a favor, so I doubt it is insulting to him

I would think it'd be pretty negligent if there wasn't more "black" candidates interviewed. Not bc they are black but there's a handful of qualified interesting guys that we should be doing diligence on. Flores being one.

Ok so which is it. Do you want more interviewed or not?

Race should play no part in it. You interview guys you think may be a good fit.

They just have to interview. Which they will regardless of Rooney rule. Lots of up and coming black coaches regardless of their race.

Glenn is considered a rising star by many in the NFL and Mike D said he will definitely be a HC soon. I don't think this is a formality, though I still think DA gets it.

I know it's semantics but we don't have to consider that, we just have to interview the guy. But yea, that speaks to your point.

I also want to say all of this is true. You have situations where you basically have to interview a guy you know you're not interested it. But while it's mostly a waste of time, there is value to it. That guy is getting valuable interview experience, and you're getting information on that guy which could help you down the road. Maybe you really like him and 1 year down the road can bring him on as a coordinator, or 3 years down the road you got the inside edge on bringing him in as HC. But overall, yea it's a shitty situation .

Because you said it’s negligent to not interview more black candidates.

Why not just say it’s negligent to not interview the best and most interesting potential candidates?

The point is valid and highlights how fricking stupid it is that it even exists.

I don't think it applies if you promote from within. That being said with the woke NFL and media they are crazy not to have a sit down at least just to say they did interview a minority.

No, you don't insult the man. Hasn't he interviewed for HC jobs before? He might be a good candidate, I know he is a good DB coach.
