Of course he does, Mickey hired Sean Payton and signed Drew Brees, drafted Reggie Bush, Cam Jordan and Marcus Colston etc. Won the Superbowl. Also some bad, hired Dennis Allen as head coach and drafted stephon Anthony and penning in the first round. Maybe he's righted the ship with KM and Shough. Time will tell but watching these young players preform is encouraging

I’m quoting myself here cause I’m right about this and you guys should get over yourselves and admit it.

quote:

Mickey Loomis is not now (nor has he ever been) the guy selecting rosters for the Saints. That complaint is ignorant. What has he actually done as GM of the Saints? 1. He is one of the early adapters of cap manipulation. Nobody in the NFL was as good as the Saints at being over the cap by 80 million dollars and still keeping players. 2. He got there to extend the window for Brees to win another Super Bowl. Everyone knew the game plan and everyone knew what would happen when it was over. And he almost succeeded if not for the NFL opting to put its new LA team in the Super Bowl instead. 3. He presided over the Saints going from laughingstock to respectable player on a yearly basis. The hate is weird. Are there better GMs? I’m sure. Are there worse? Ask Cleveland fans. The Panthers traded their future for a guy who’s 5’9” and throws like a girl. Get a grip, Twitter. I mean, Saints Talk.

He get all the blame so why doesn't he deserve credit? The answer is yes.

I’d have to imagine it was Moore who mostly had the hand in picking Shough.

Yep, Loomis isn’t really out there hand picking players. If you want to give him credit, give it to him for not signing players to ridiculous contracts. But again, that’s a directive coming down from above Loomis’s head.

There is credit that needs to be given in this organization, but Loomis isn’t at the top of that list.

I look at him as the CKM hire, not necessarily draft picks. I think CKM had more to do with the draft, along with scouting.

But I also look at him as the source for contract issues.

If he gets the blame, he gets the credit but I still think that others are calling the football shots. Moore probably picked the QB. .

I think he deserves credit for Moore, Staley, Chase Young.

I think most of the draft class is thanks to Ireland and the coaching staff. There’s a reason why good teams always remain good. The coaches have way more say so in the process (like Payton) and it usually leads to good results when you have good coaches and not so good results when you have bad ones (DA)

This board’s opinion of Loomis changes with the scoreboard from week to week. Everyone wanted him gone a few weeks ago. Now our rookie QB gets in and plays well and Loomising is a thing again.

This team still needs to be rebuilt. It's a long way away,

This draft class looks pretty good. And, everyone with a brain thinks Shough is worth seeing if he can be the franchise guy.

That's a huge accomplishment.

But, it's going to take a couple more if this franchise is going to turn it around.

Well, it's kind of retarded to blame him for all the bad stuff and ignore him in all the good stuff.

90% of Saints talk is retarded so no he wont get any credit here.

This roster is still just so bad and you've wasted season after season post-Brees to get to this point.

Hitting on Shough would be huge but the roster is void of young talent.

That seems like a preseason take, Lester.

I think there is a lack of depth but there is young talent on the roster. Just in this draft alone you are getting major contributions from Shough, Banks, Riley, Sanker, and Neal. Olave is still on his first contract and in his prime years. Chase Young, Kool-Aid, Howden, and Bresee on defense in last few drafts/FA. We need to fill holes but there is the framework to build.

Most of those guys are ancillary players at best.

Defensively, Davis and Cam Jordan are holding the defense together from being an absolute shite show. Staley had done really well with what he has but you need some top end talent and the Saints have none.

Kelvin Banks looks promising but Fuaga has regressed. The 2024 draft looks bad, like most of the drafts in the 2020’s.

They botched the best draft pick in recent years with Zack Baun, which should be a fireable offense in itself.

You need ancillary players to win games. I’d agree we need to draft some more playmakers. I think Chase Young, Kool-Aid, and Riley have the potential to be more than ancillary. I’d argue Young is a playmaker right now. He’s closed two games with sacks and would be on pace for 11+ if he hadn’t been hurt.

I think with more firepower at WR/TE/RB and at pass rush / secondary this is an 8-9 win team next year, maybe better if Shough and the other guys take another leap.
