Do we really want to pay Michael Thomas 20 million a year?

With AB’s new contract that’s where the numbers are. He’s very excited on Twitter about it. He’s all about getting the top WR salary.

Poll -
Pay Thomas the money
Deal him for picks/players

Pay him

Dude can go down as one of the best WRs this era.

He has the makings of a HoF receiver. Pay him.

Do we really want to be the team that deals away a HOF WR before he hits his prime? No we do not

Also, what if he went to a team like Carolina? You really want to go through that twice a year?

That’s a tough one to answer. How many times have we seen Brees develop/make a receiver and then (they) go somewhere else and be complete garbage?

My initial reaction is to say pay him, and bring in another top WR to make one last go at the SB. Then - cross your fingers and hope we can bring in a stud rookie QB to take over the reins, make some top FA grabs, and model with the Rams have done.

.@Cantguardmike tweeted last night for Antonio Brown to “run it up” on his big extension. With good reason... AB’s new deal equates to $19.8M per year. As #Saints WR Michael Thomas sits at home, waiting for his new deal that will start with a 20....

Michael Thomas may go down as a Future Hall of Famer and one of the best WRs in NFL history, and he hasn't even reached his prime yet. I want him doing that as a Saint, not anywhere else. You 100% pay that man. This decision is easy.

Absolutely pay him. We want our future rookie QB to have weapons to help him develop. Imagine a good rookie stepping in with Thomas, Kamara, and a stout o-line?

Hell, even Chosen Rosen would look decent with this setup.

I mean, you're gonna have a ton of cap space open once Brees retires.

Might as well use it to keep the 2nd best player on your roster.

You want to see Carolina pay him that instead?

Pay him. He has the skill plus the correct attitude. A rookie or new qb will need time and patience to get acclimated. I believe Thomas will understand this.

I would give him a fully guaranteed contract to bring the number down. 5 yr 85mil fully guaranteed.

Pay him. We will presumably have a rookie QB contract post Drew anyway. Might as well spend the saved money on an elite player to help the young qb

Well...you don’t develop talent to let it it walk away.

I previously didn’t want to but he’s shown himself capable of being a productive one man receiving group. His game is also not based on speed and he will only keep getting better.

Yes you absolutely pay him and Alvin Kamara. Those two are going to be the ones to carry this offense post Brees until the next franchise QB emerges. It can work with Drew's contract coming off the books and either Bridgewater on a cheap deal or a rookie under center.

There would be 31 teams in the league willing to offer him 20 million a year if we let him hit free agency.

Does that answer your question?

Pay him. This is stupid. You have a top 5 receiver. The most physical receiver in the nfl. You pay him especially considering we will have a new young quarterback soon.

He’s already one of the top 5 WR in the game and hasn’t hit his ceiling yet. Most of his career will be the post Brees era and he’s a guy that could keep us competitive. Pay him whatever you need to keep him
