Detroits injuries

both of their starting safeties are out as is the starting center.The loses at those positions are critical in football.Most safeties are the QBs of the D.The center is the most important part of the OL,he gets the OL into the right blocking skeme every play.With those players out the Saints should keep this game close ,at least they should.

The Saints did pretty well last season, and McCoy was lost in season with no time to prepare.
Granted Fortner isn't on the team this year, and that's because he did such a great job filling in for McCoy.
The loss of the safeties will be a much bigger deal in Detroit for game 1.

It must get tiring to have to always focus on the worst possible outcome in every situation. I think that's a sign of a miserable person. You should get out into the sun more.

They are probably gonna be starting thier 3rd center. for comparison, our 3rd center is on our practice squad maybe

Also, how comfortable would you be playing with Jordan Howden and Mike Reid as your starting safties on Sunday, because Detroit is rolling out the equivalant of that. The main difference is they were a single high saftey team that relied on man-to-man, with Branch playing the slot and Joseph (probably the best pure safety in the NFL) covering everything deep. They literally have to change their defense to cover for this absence.

You can't have a center that fails.
You can't have a center who can't call the protections.
You can't have a center that doesn't help the inside run.
You can't have a center that allows inside pressure as its the quickest path to the qb.
Centers rarely get help to do their job from the ball carriers.

Some offensive lines will have one of the OGs running the protections. So, even if Detroit uses the Center for this, as others pointed out they’ve had a few weeks to get someone else ready to take over this roll.
Back to OP, the Mike LBer is usually the QB of the defense.
