Dennis Allen: WR Michael Thomas to be 'good to go' for Saints training camp

It has been a tumultuous couple of seasons for New Orleans Saints wide receiver Michael Thomas. In the early goings of the 2020 season, he suffered a high-ankle sprain which effectively limited his production and availability for a year and a half, though he did play through it that year.
After missing all of 2021, Thomas made his return to the Saints in a big way with a fantastic start to last year, but unfortunately was again cut short by a dislocated toe on the same foot. But all is not lost when it comes to his highly-anticipated return.
After agreeing to return to New Orleans after the acquisition of quarterback Derek Carr, Thomas' timeline is in keen focus. Saints head coach Dennis Allen updates that the expectations for Thomas' 2023 return are positive. He provided the update on the Rich Eisen Show early this week:
"Right now he’s still going through some of the rehab process. He had some hardware removed out of that foot that he had surgery on this past season. He’s doing really well. He’s working extremely hard. Our anticipation is that... he’ll be limited throughout this offseason. But our anticipation is that when we get to training camp that he’ll be good to go."
That is big news for the Saints who have been building quite the offensive attack this offseason around Carr. Thomas is joined in the wide receiver room by second-year standouts Chris Olave and Rashid Shaheed among others to create an explosive attack on the perimeter. The Saints have also bolstered their backfield which already features star backs Alvin Kamara and Jamaal Williams by drafting explosive TCU running back Kendre Miller. And of course, the recent addition of tight end Foster Moreau alongside the already-rostered Juwan Johnson and Taysom Hill is generating a ton of excitement. A healthy Thomas goes a long way in this system.
Well that's good news. I'm cautiously optimistic. Getting anything positive out of tight lipped DA is a plus.

With the money he has he needs to just get a bionic/cyborg leg and foot and play some damn ball.

Saints start losing at any point and he'll find something wrong. Guy is a bum.

Our WR room this season should be pretty good (Better then last season) with Olave, Sheheed, Perry. If we can get anything out of Thomes it will be phenomenal.
Again though, IMO Thomas is going to have a great season because he's on basically a one year prove it contract and he knows a lot of money is riding on him being healthy and productive after basically 3 mulligan seasons.

I'll believe it when I see it. Until I see it, Michael Thomas is a non-factor.

Looking at spotrac, it appears there is a chance he is still here under the current contract in 2024; unless they have an unofficial official agreement. But looking at the bonus opportunities, there is no way he is missing any games for nagging injuries.
For those that don't want to do the math, if he replicates 2018 or 2019 over 17 games he is looking at another $6.24M in performance bonuses, and another $750k for the ProBowl & playoffs and All-Pro designations. Not sure if the per game bonus carries into playoffs

Very incentive laden. If he gets hobbled and starts missing games again it will cut deeply into his wallet.
I have never thought that he was goldbricking I think that he fricked up with his rehab and the team fricked up the second procedure and hopefully this is in the past. I pray we get the healthy MT back. What a valuable weapon he can be.

He plays like superman and shows up bout as often.
If your going to troll be good. Not crap.

We don’t need 130 catch 1500 yard MT. If he can get us 70 catches 800 yards 5 TDs that’s a huge impact on this team with the other WRs we have.

Dude needs to be held out until our first offensive possession of game 1 in order to maximize his time.

I think he'd actually have to play for this statement to apply.

Dude wants to play now that he has a QB. I don’t blame him.
