If some fans would lose there personal bias they would see that this scenario has been planned out for some time by Loomis and the decision is really very simple for him.

The hire will be Dennis Allen and its the easiest HC hire in the league. Payton is burned out but I would not doubt that this decision did not come at this time because DA was likely going to be given a HC job elsewhere. Think about what Payton and the saints would look like next year with a questionable offense and a new DC. That is the ingredients for a really bad spell for the organization. That scenario just exacerbated Payton's mental beating and desire for a break.

Loomis always has a scenario planned out for just about any situation that could arise. He and Payton have likely talked about this in the past and this decision was not a surprise at all. He and Payton most likely have been preparing DA for the HC opportunity indirectly if not directly.

The Saints are one of the best run organizations in all of sports. They will be promoting from within you can bet the house on that. DA appears to be the guy but don't be surprised if another name pops up from within the building. Culture is important and Loomis isn't going to frick that up by bringing in an outsider.
