If we were to hit the field right now with who we have, where would you rank our offense and defense?

Defense - #1

Offense - Top 5

I'd rank our offense higher, but I'm waiting to see how quickly Winston gels with Landry, having MT back and Olave.

I think the chances of having a top 5 offense are slim to none. I think with the additions at WR, and hopefully Carmichael opens up the offense a bit more than Payton did, we could be somewhere around league average. Which would be quite the improvement from last season.

Da fuk?!?

No, for that to even come close to happening they would have to let Winston cook........unfortunately he'd cook 40 INT's.

i'd say both have top 10 potential. bout all we know right now. i'd say statistically being top 10 offensively might be the bigger challenge.

Eh, I'd say we're around 10-12. Talent wise we can be 7-8, but let's see how we actually execute.

Have to love Saints Talk. The only fan message board where optimism is constantly attacked by blind hatred from other fans.

When you look at the team, you have to imagine that the addition of Winston for 17 games, MT13 (even if at 75% of his 2019 year), Landry & Olave should net the offense another 3-7 points per game. Kamara's suspension could be a factor, but you also have to consider he missed 4 games with injury last year. And while injuries are a part of the game, you cannot expect the shitshow of injuries that this team faced last year.

Last year this team had the COVID game, the Book game, Siemien with 4 starts, offensive line woes... and the offense finished ranked 19th in points. 55 points from 15th (3.3/game), 86 from 10th (5.1), and 110 from 5th (6.5). So, if increasing the fire power by adding those weapons can add 3-7 points per game, a top 10 offense is not out of the question, and top 5 isn't unreasonable.

If you're a yards guy; Saints finished 28th, 831 yards from 15th (49/game), 1,038 from 10th (61), and 1,316 from 5th (78)

Defense easily top 5.

Offense no f@cking clue. Questions everywhere and a QB who graded as incomplete last year.

It was initially reported that he didn't necessarily want the OC job (without Payton being the primary play caller) or that Allen was considering other options. Assuming that is true, Carmichael might be a little hesitant to deviate from what he feels Payton would do as a play-caller. Or, in other words, he may feel a little less inclined to put his own spin on the offense (at least early).

Given the WR group looks to be MUCH better than last year, it is hard to imagine the offense won't be better simply based on that fact alone. I am interested to see how much rope they give to Winston. They essentially treated him like a rookie QB last season and kept the passing game very conservative. We know that "good" Winston can be explosive in the passing game. It's now a matter of how much they think "bad" Winston is a thing of the past

Now I’m not saying we’re going to sniff the top 5 offensively, but I think 90% of this board doesn’t give Winston enough credit.

He’s going to shock a lot of people this season.

Defense is certainly capable of being a top 5 unit, without a doubt a top 10 unit. I can see the offense ranking anywhere from 5-20 though, who knows, probably more in the 13-17 range imo.

Yeah, with how many INT's? I'll hang up and listen.

Too many, but that has nothing to do with offensive ranking. Since you can indeed have a top 5 offense with winston, time to change the subject
