re: Cris Carter admits to placing bounties on players throughout his career

And that's another fundamental argument of this whole "ordeal". Is "Pay for XXX (anything)" legal in the NFL?
Carter was defending the Saints in the sense that "pay for whatever" schemes have been around forever. However, he was not defending the act of targetting specific players.
Me, personally - my argument is the same. Do I get bothered by "pay for performance" type incentives, absolutely not. Do I think it's morally/ethically and against NFL rules to try and get a QB carted off of the field - YEP.
That's where my line is and I think SOME (mainly Vilma) players on the Saints crossed that line. Not all are guilty.

That still doesn't explain your stance that paying to take a player off the field is not the same intent as paying to take a player off the field.

I agree that that's stepping across the line, but I haven't seen any proof that occurred.

I agree that that's stepping across the line
But paying to injure a guy under the guise of being protected from that guy is NOT stepping across the line.
It's the same exact thing, the intent is to injure a dude and get paid doing so.

well then you must hate football...every defensive player in the history of pro football is trying to get the opposing qb out of the game...on every single play...FACT

"pay for cart offs" like the Saints are accused of.
Evidence?
Evidence?

Paying to have someone watch your back is different than targetting a QB or RB which Greg Williams is recorded saying.
Argue with me all you want. Doesn't make you/it any less wrong.
True but where is the evidence of the players participating in the pay for injury? Where is the evidence that Sean Payton and Loomis knew of and lied about a pay for injury program opposed to a pay for performance program.
You are correct. There is a very distinct difference. They are guilty of pay for performance program...where's the evidence of pay for injury other than Gregg Williams running his dumbass mouth? If they did it, then ok...show the evidence that warrants such extreme punishments.

Please find me one dirty play Vilma was involved in ON THE FIELD.

Thing is, it's slightly different than the way it reads. In an interview on ESPN radio, Carter said that when players would threaten to injure him or end his career, he would go to the O-lineman and tell them "Hey, look out for so & so. He's looking to get me. Gonna be some food money for ya."
Not like carter was sitting at home plotting to blow out knees because he's a douche. He just wanted to make sure the threats he received weren't executed.

Right. And that's all I was really trying to get at - is that it's not like Carter was defending the Saints from their accusations.
Actually - all of this is sort of a side topic to the fact that I think the Saints got slammed because they were warned once and continued the bounty system like the NFL warnings never mattered. I truly believe had GW left a year before or they simply squashed the bounty system when they were warned - this would be a non-discussion.

EXACTLY. Find me one his entire career at New Orleans.. hell find me one his entire NFL playing career. Just one.
I think he has had maybe 1 personal foul a season.. if that. I can only think of one hit on a qb he was called for.

I give up. Some of you guys are blind to why the punishments were handed down or just want to be homers.
I'll repeat - it wasn't any specific play(s) on the field that got the punishments. It's the fact that you were found/caught with a bounty system, warned, and continued to operate without regard to those warnings. That's why certain people got slammed.
The only credible argument the Saints org and fans have is that they SHOULD be allowed to see the evidence. I agree with that...

So Scott Fujita ignored the warnings and kept it going while with Cleveland in 2010 and 2011?? Just one of many inconsistencies in this whole clusterf*@k.

That's not the only one.
Another one is the NFL trying to frame the Saints as going after other players to injure them when in fact they just had a pool of money for big plays.
