Muh tear it down people don’t care about value, they just want change for change’s sake
Even if that means totally destroying our reputation with veterans and ruining our chances to sign future FA’s like in the early 00’s.

The Saints are in the NFL, not the NBA
Also, title are won in the draft and trades, not free agency. Free agency should be used to re-sign the talent acquired in the draft and via trades.

Option bonus bro
Explain to me what you think this means to our cap
I'm not sure that brings the savings a lot of people that refer to it think it will. Sure, it allows the team to push a lot of his money to another team while giving the team temporary cap relief, but unless the new team can take the signing bonus & other restructured funds I don't see how it really helps that much.
As I understand it, trading Latt between 6/01 and 8/29 drops his cap hit for 2024 from $14.6M to $10.6M. His 2025 cap hit drops from $31.4M to $20.6M.
Plus, because you need a team to take a large salary from a disgruntled player, you lose some leverage for a high value pick. That pick won't be until 2025 at the earliest, and if you need the team to take more cap hit (if the league allows) it'll be an even lower draft pick.

This is a discussion board. What else is there to talk about? Dennis Allen’s brilliant coaching philosophies? Gail Benson’s savvy ownership moves?

How bout the draft? How bout limit cap talk to the other threads already here on the site? The site is basically unreadable know bc every thread is a repeat of the last one

The draft is 2 months away, the cap is a big topic now because it’s the news now, the new league year, new cap figures were announced and the most recent moves are all cap related. Whether you like it or not the Saints strategy is centered around structuring the restructuring contracts to comply with the cap so it always be an important factor and topic of discussion

I agree. There are stupid threads to be made, but I'm all about shitting on the salary cap manipulation and/or praising it. Whichever fits my agenda at the time.

Cool, but no matter how many times we go round and round on the subject, the saints strategy isn't changing. Perhaps spamming the saints with emails or posts on X is a better strategy to get change. You guys telling us the same thing 24/7 is just annoying

Not for us.
I mean, crazy concept, but you could just not participate in said thread and start your own, way more interesting topic.

Should Ryan Ramczyk be a designated June 1st cut for us at this time? He's got a 3/16 bonus tied to him right now. He saves a ton of money by an outright june 1st cut. He ain't worth it no more.

I feel sorry for you guys families. You are obviously difficult people to be around for any length of time.

FA starts March 11. More football talk but there will be a lot of "too bad we couldn't afford soandso" so it's not going to stop anytime soon.

the salary cap is a myth
its just like that word recession
neither of them is real
when the rules defining them are changed faster than you can keep up with, its all just a talking point

Then why do the Saints restructure contracts every year to get under the cap? What is the point of redoing Carr’s deal, tying yourself to him for more years?

We get it dude. You’re better than all the complainers and like to let us all know about it. Major props for your rational, level headed acceptance of the current front office shortcomings. If only the saints had an entire legion of A+ fans like you we’d be in a much better place as an organization.
The reality is we haven’t drafted particularly well over the last few years, we’re always treading water with the cap, and we have an aging roster without a lot of opportunity to turn over unless we truly crush the draft. Pair that with one of the most uninspiring head coaches in the league and a made man at GM regardless of performance.
The current model isn’t exactly amazing and we’re right at the point of the offseason where the primary topic of discussion is finances and cap room. It’s not going to be sunshine and rainbows given the current situation.

if the cap isn't real and we're able to operate freely why were we forced to let guys like hendrickson walk?
Posted on 2/26/24 at 11:53 am to BilJ
Hendrickson and Williams would’ve been massive building blocks going into their prime.
