we need to sticky this thread so all the cap circle jerkers can have 1 spot to bitch about it instead of cluttering the board with thread after thread.

We never get past the point of complaining about the cap. Never. Ever

Because our front office has only exacerbated our cap issues instead of fixing them.

I'd like your opinion on the matter, again. If you can convince me, I think it will finally change.

i think sfp's usage of the word exacerbated is not correct by any means. its almost like he's just being a hyperbolic little bitch.

You think Loomis has not made our cap situation worse the past calendar year?

pretty sure a year ago we were over 100 million over the cap with no qb's on roster outside of taysom.

Yes, he has. But, there has been a competitive team on the field for each of the last 3 years. SP, despite the QB issues his last season, had a team competing for a playoff spot. Injuries were terrible that year.

The last two I blame on DA and Pete.

While the salary cap has been an issue, there is no void of talent on the team. Issues, sure. But a playoff team was hidden somewhere in there.

Fans have no idea how bad the future looks for the Saints. The Saints are in
a Ground Hogs Day loop. But it's not a movie.

For a team who hasn’t made the playoffs in 3 years this is quite embarrassing, itd be one thing if we were competing for a championship

It wasn't hidden in the playoffs, I can tell you that.

if the cap isn't real and we're able to operate freely why were we forced to let guys like hendrickson walk?

People that say the salary cap is a myth can never answer this. Who lets a top 3 sack guy just leave for nothing? Look at what the bengals just did. Think they were gonna let Higgins just walk this off-season? You don’t let talent just leave especially at one of the top priority positions in the league outside of qb.

Salary cap hell = NFL’s farm team

My favorite was actually the talking points about Marcus Williams. "We were never going to pay a FS that much".

...why? If the cap isn't real, that makes negative sense.

Wonder what our defense woukd look like right now with just Hendrickson, Williams and Ellis, who was really good as our third backer, on our tream. Or even Onyametta who was better than the guys we brought in to replace.

Wouldn’t have had to waste a 1st and 2nd on Turner and Fosky for one. Picks that could have been better utilized instead of horrible reaches where they were picked.

Williams to Maye = major downgrade
Hendrickson to Davenport/Turner = major downgrade
Onyanmetta to Shepard/Saunders = downgrade
Ellis to Baun = major downgrade
Armstead to Hurst = major downgrade

Salary cap isn’t real right, but then why were these moves made? Anyone with half a brain and knows football knew they were all gonna be downgrades(maybe not our front office). Only one justifiable and that was Armstead because of his injury history.

Would be great to go back in time to fix every mistake but does all other 31 teams get to do the same in this scenario?

Alternately it would be better to have a more sensible approach to the salary cap and you wouldn’t have to let all of those players walk

I like the time machine idea better. But instead of a DeLorean make it like...

If we trade Latt and have to cut Ram, we're all going to care.

If those two things happened it would be the smartest decisions this front office has made since they traded Jimmy Graham. Lattimore has peaked and Ramczyk might not have another full season of football left in him due to his health issue. Not saying those guys weren't/aren't worth their contracts, but this franchise will not sniff a Superbowl anytime soon and the best thing they can do for the long-term is consolidate draft capital and get in a better cap situation.
