I can see why under these specific circumstances to let them sweat it out with competition for another week at practice. And then they can make that decision towards the end of this week so that the starter is known for the last week of practice before the season starts.

yeah that's kind of what I'm hoping it is too

Although in my opinion if I'm being fair, I don't think either guy really separated themselves

Probably waiting for Jameis or Wilson gets cut.
I think they dont the Ratt has it and Seaux needs to sit.

Mahmoes sat behind that dude we lost to in the 2011 championhip game too.
Brees sat behidn Flutie.
Brady sat behind that other dude bledoso.

As much as anyone might try to say otherwise, this is the only correct viewpoint. Neither guy has earned it, but neither guy has shown they would be completely incapable.

I wanted to see both behind McCoy so we could have some real blocking for them in the preseason, but what can you do.

I don't agree. Neither guy has hugely separated themselves but that means more imo that both are sort of doing well for their respective spot in their careers. If there was a huge seperation at this point, it would more mean one was struggling bigly more so than one separating himself cause of doing that well. Neither have played with huge decks of cards in preseason with an intact OL and all the weapons around.

I think you misunderstood what I meant by earn it. I meant neither has played so far ahead that they are clearly the must start guy. I do agree both have done well enough this preseason for being early in their careers AND not having McCoy to block for them.

Let's be super honest, neither guy really had a fair shake with how open the middle of our line was all preseason, so given that I am anxious to see what they can do with McCoy.

The Saints started Rattler last year (after the first time Carr was out) then benched him. They started Haener following the NYG game in which Carr was hurt. If they don't start Rattler in Game 1 then that would be an effective second "benching". It's hard to see a team rally around a guy two different staffs would have essentially said isn't good enough to start for this team.

Partly, that's why I think they give Rattler the start. If it's quickly clear the Saints can't win with him, then they can move to Shough and effectively close the book on Rattler. If they go with Shough first and have to make a change to Rattler the other players are going to have NO confidence in Rattler

If there were a GOOD veteran for him to learn from I would agree. Jameis is not that lol.

I honestly don’t think the QB of the future is on the team. But everyone SHOULD know that Rattler is not the future. The only one that there is a question about is Shough. He’s not a 21 year old top 5 pick that you really need to be careful with.

He is a 26 yr old rookie that has dealt with a lot of adversity (which is why they wanted him). You do NOT need to coddle him. Let him start…..if he’s not the guy, draft another one. It’s that fricking simple. We already know Rattler isn’t it…….ABSOLUTELY no reason to start him

Great point
We haven't really seen "real" game time situations yet.
By that I mean all the starters together playing for an extended period of time. Time to gel is a luxury right now. Continuity and chemistry can only come from a consistent group getting reps together.
So many players have been shufffled in pre-season because that's what pre-season is all about. Plug and Play is over now.
Rattler should get the first shot at this.

Quinn Ewers looks better than what we got in the QB room currently.

Yes or something like that. Kellen Moore and everyone else knows we aren't playoff bound so it doesn't matter. They will go with the veteran over the rookie. They know rattler is starting, they just don't want to announce it yet.
