It's fair to say so far the Ruiz pick seems to be a bust for a 1st rounder. Given that he was graded as the best C in college, said he was born to and wanted play C. Knowing that releasing him isnt feasible or helpful, if you were the o line coach would you give extended time to switching him and McCoy to see if it would be better overall, I believe McCoy could be very good at G and Ruiz couldn't be much worse at C. So as a Hail Mary would you give this a real extended chance to work or no?

Definitely feels like a bust. But im willing to give him another year to affirm. His development had to have gotten stunted with last season

I would not, he played 3 games as Center when McCoy was injured earlier in the year and struggled there as well. I think he's just a 1st round bust, but will/could become a serviceable backup once they replace him at OG.

Similar to what happened to peat before he settled down, they need to leave him at one position and let him focus about it.

He may start next training camp at center. He was playing a lot of center last camp, but things had to get shifted around when he went out with a foot injury.

If he plays center next season and still sucks, then he’s a bust.

2020 draft was an odd one with Covid and limited workouts/interviews. There were hits and misses all over the place. I think Ruiz can be serviceable. Next year will be a telling year for him. I’ll somewhat give him a pass this year as he lost his center and transitioned there for about five games then lost an All-Pro at LT.

That 2020 Saints draft: Ruiz, Baun, Trautman and Tommy Stevens. :woof:

That class needs to step it up!

It’s way too early to deem him a bust. Next year will be the year I think the judgement would be fair. He’s had some rough circumstances coming into the nfl. He switched positions with no training camp his rookie year. This year he’s bounce back and forth between positions. That’s a lot to ask of a guy with one year under his belt in the league. He has had a few good moments but overall he’s having a pretty bad year.

Next year I think it is fair game to call him a bust if he doesn’t improve

Any of the 3 receivers drafted after Ruiz would have started this year and been a major upgrade.

Without knowing some huge excuse for his play of recent, as of now i would rather bench his arse in offseason. His play of recent is completely unacceptable. Don't give a shite what position he's lined up at.

It was dumb drafting a guy so we could move a center who was good at center to guard.

I think y’all overreact too much about the born to play C quote or moving back and forth. He has not been good this year but still too early. Personally I prefer 3-4 years to see how someone may turn out. It’s really not that difficult to go from C to G, players do it all the time. But it can take a few years for a 1-2 year player who’s rookie year was a wash due to Covid.

I would imagine his position coach will advise of his weak hold on staying a starter for next year and the need for him to have his best off season ever. No doubts here that the FO will do their best to upgrade guard/center positions with FA and the draft...just not a 1st rounder

Not all bad picks are “busts”. Bust doesn’t simply mean bad pick. He will end up being at worst a 2 year starter.

He has been disappointing but screaming bust about a late 1st round interior OL is some serious First-Take, hyperbolic hysteria.

Ruiz is a bust. He is absolutely awful and was a horrible pick. Our guy got taken right before we picked and this was a panic pick. Andrew Peat and Ruiz should be shipped out as part of whatever package we offer to Seattle or Green Bay. They both suck and have to go.

This is why I said in multiple draft threads we should be targeting Jefferson. He already had basic knowledge of the saints offense from joe Brady. Would have been a smooth transition with no practices and workouts due to covid….

Wasn’t he also the youngest or one of the youngest players in the draft? Sime lineman take a few more years to develop. By the end of next year we should have a better idea if he’s a quality starter or not.

I remember Jon stinchcomb looking like a complete bust early in his year and I think by his 4th or 5th year we had to start him and he was a mainstay after.

Major bust and completely ridiculous pick at the time. It’s even more ridiculous looking at the studs that were picked after him

He started like 30 games in 2 years. While he might not meet the lofty expectations of fans, he is far from a bust.

He’s played awful in every way. And when he did play center against Carolina he got Jamies killed with his non protection calls
